I found ledger rigs only work well out deep. 15m deep or less strayline works better. Circle hook also better for less gut hook

that is true but its also less complicated (found it lot easier to use wen i first started too) and personally i do prefer using circle hooks. far more better for catch and release

@BasicFishingNZ i started using ledger but rarely caught much off wharf or rocks with them and then got boat and continued to use in shallows but once I swapped to strayline and circle hook with a liveline reel I started catching 10x more and off land and boat. Juat my 2 cents

Ledger is my # 1 surfcasting , rock n wharf fishing rig, pulley rig 2nd, stray line 3rd. Been at it for over 20 years has never failed me ...
