hello awesome video i was wondering what bait traps you use and how you set one up it looks like a plastic box just placed in the water but i dont wanna be the beach fool with a plastic container just sitting there being useless.
@BasicFishingNZКүн бұрын
offically its called a poddy mullet trap. its simply a clear box with a hole on the top that allows the fish to enter. heres a video to help you to see better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2fHdaBrl69grqc

@BasicFishingNZ if you spend time to target them then I'm sure you'll get them. We just go to the local kids wharf by the port and hope for some luck. It's my wife's favourite fish to eat so we target it a lot. But could be there for 5 hours and not catch anything.

The shellfish berley works great around the mussel farms! I use the same rig method, a large circle hook, sml 1/4 ounce sinker or split shot, & a smaller J hook as a keeper to hold the bigger baits in place. The sinker sits inbetween the hooks. The sinker helps to get the bait down faster & keeps it more presentable to the fish, otherwise it tends to sink on a funny angle or not sink at all. Bigger snapper always pick up the bait & slowly move off with it, you have to free spool them, a count down from 5 & set the hook.
@BasicFishingNZ7 күн бұрын
yea its funny how the sink rate of the bait makes a massive differences in catching or not

I have been softbaiting off to the left of the marina in Gulf Harbour, and felt this weird tugging on my lure as I was retrieving it. It's happened a few times. Turns out it was squid as they were coming right to the surface.

Nice catch the first one was massive I want to get started squid fishing but I don’t know what gear I should get and what jigs to get any tips
@BasicFishingNZАй бұрын
well for squid jigs to start i would recommend 2.5 as for colour i would recommend the white glow (all arounder in my experience) but also get a few different colours to see what works). as for rod and reel you want to use light eging gear. makes a big differences as with light gear u can jig it all day
