A tip for each class. These aren’t all of them, but I find they’re pretty important: Gunner isn’t just the heavy weapons guy. He’s also the team’s best medic. You can revive a downed teammate by holding the action button, but that can take precious time, and enemies will swarm a downed teammate’s body. If you’re in a particularly hurried or dangerous situation, gunner can throw down his deployable shield to safely revive a teammate, causing all bugs within its range to scatter. You can also shoot out of the shield, so keep that in mind. But it’s a limited duration, so be ready to get back into the fight pretty soon. If you’re an engineer, and there is a scout on your team, be sure to use your platform gun to place the pancake looking platforms underneath any minerals that are on the walls or ceiling of a cave, especially if your team pings it. Scout can use his grappling hook to zip over to the minerals, but your platforms let him mine them without falling to his death. (Though he’ll sometimes do it anyway.) The scout/engie combo is one I often see new players not knowing about, and it’s something that pretty much everyone will expect you to learn as you go forwards. Scouts, remember to use your flare gun in big areas. Not those small ones where your small throwable flares will do. I mean the big caves. It can be hard to see your way sometimes, or spot precious minerals or other objectives. A blind dwarf is a dead dwarf. (A slow dwarf is also a dead dwarf, but you already got speed covered, you’re a scout.) Sometimes, Hoxxes’ winding tunnels and cave systems can get a little complex. Too complex to easily navigate, even with the terrain scanner. And what happens if Molly takes a weird route up a wall? You can’t follow that! But there is a solution. The driller. The driller extraction is a tried and true way to get out of a hairy situation. Make sure you have plenty of fuel before doing this, though. Simply look towards the big indicator on where the drop pod is, find the closest wall in its direction, and START DRILLING. Your team will cover you from the rear. Just make sure you stop when your drill heat reaches 99%, or else they’ll be on cooldown for a good while, and you don’t want that.

ANOTHER DRILLER TIP: You have c4, and if theres a scout on your team...
@tuongnguyen28072 жыл бұрын
If you are first on the drop pod, ping it. This will help other teammates see exactly where the pod is. (specially when a driller is still drilling his way toward the pod) My personal keybind for laser pointer is Q (toggle off) it's like some "survival instinct" in other video games where it would highlight important things. I can see where's other teammates, where Molly is, ammo pod is, etc.

As a gunner, your zipline can break your fall if you hold down the grab button while falling. It can make vertical caves that you're staying in for awhile much easier, like point extractions. Put down a Zipline near the mine rig so people can jump down to it and save lots of time Engineers tend to forget that they can place platforms onto other platforms. You can form bridges with them to access more areas then you'd think, especially useful if you know you're going to be going through that area again and will need a convenient way across fast If there is a ledge you want to reach as a scout but it's awkward to grapple to and can reach the ceiling, you can grapple to the ceiling and let go of the grapple when you reach the ledge. You can cancel your movement at any time and stop yourself from going all the way up which makes you feel like spiderman. Instead of "from A to D skipping B and C" it's like "from A to D but can stop at B, C or D" Drillers can make everyone's lives so much easier with a little bit of foresight. For example, if you're entering a new cave during a mining expedition and you had to fall into it, don't wait until the drop pod is called to make access back up. While the rest of the team works on mining minerals and clearing bugs you can begin working on a convenient walking path back up to the previous cave before it becomes a problem. Thinking two steps ahead is what separates a greenbeard and greybeard driller

With season 3 finally out and many of my friends looking for new games, i've had an excess of greenbeards to play with, and giving them the crash course has been actually quite fun! Though sometimes my explanations can be a touch long winded, this video will definitely help with the nitty gritty bits! Oh and for the Greenbeards who aren't my friends and would like some advice, here is some advice from my greybeard from long ago that helped me: Never be ashamed of what difficulty you play on, no matter what anyone tells you. Just because some greybeards play on hazard 5 with blackout stout and pickaxes only does not mean you have to do the same! Play the game on whatever difficulty you feel comfortable with, be it hazard 1 or hazard 5, the game is meant to be enjoyable so do what you enjoy!

I personally run around on Haz 3 or 4 depending on the mission because I love how fast and frantic the combat gets, but whenever I'm doing assignment missions I always just grind through them on 1 or 2 for ease. 4+ is still incredibly hard with full upgrades and overclocks, just less than without.

A smaller tip I'd give is: even if you're too broke or don't like to buy extra stuff, do still go buy all the upgrades for your armor rig. This is because there's a bar below the upgrades that will fill up every time your purchase an upgrade, and it will give you extra stuff when you buy enough upgrades. The weapons upgrade bars only give you some weapon skins, but the armor rig bar actually gives you extra health, so I recommend you work towards buying all the upgrades for your armor rig when you can for that bit of extra health 😄

*Advanced tips for exploration/combat:* - When mining, if you break everything supporting a structure (like the base of a pillar), the rest will collapse. You can mine certain minerals faster this way (ex: breaking the base of an Umanite crystal to mine the whole thing a lot faster). - As Driller, you can smooth out rough terrain for you and your team. Or, on objectives like Salvage Operation, where you need to defend a point, you can drill into the ceiling and walls to give yourselves more room to fight in around the point. - As Engineer, you can use your platforms for a ton of things. Most importantly, making ledges on hard-to-reach minerals for the Scout to safely grapple to. But also, you can seal holes in the floor, or with the Tier 2 upgrade, make soft landing pads to save you and your team from falling off cliffs. If you're quick enough, you can use the latter trick to save yourself mid-combat if you accidentally fall off a ledge. - As Scout, you're the support class. Remember to light up caves often (but not often enough that you run out of flare gun ammo), and remember that all of your grenades are support-oriented. Cryo grenades are especially good at instantly killing flying enemies, or preventing deathrattle effects like Praetorian fart clouds and Brood Nexus spawns. - For Gunner, I have 2 tips. Firstly, use your shields for your allies as well as yourself. Don't be selfish! If you see your teammates struggling, you can toss your shields a good distance to save them. Secondly, you can save yourself from falling with ziplines (if they're already below you). Just hold "E" while falling onto a zipline and you'll automatically catch it - no fancy timing required. - Once you unlock the pickax "power attack," remember to use it often. It's not just useful for combat! A power attack instantly breaks any terrain type, letting you mine faster or quickly create a ledge to mantle onto. An advanced Scout player can use this to make a foothold on a wall without needing Engie platforms, but that doesn't mean the Engie shouldn't still help out! (Also, Oppressors and Mactera take massive damage from pickax power attacks!) - During Dreadnaught fights, it's slightly helpful to always keep the Dreadnaught(s) pinged. This highlights them for the entire team, making them slightly easier to see and hit. - Many weapons have animations that can be skipped to save a bit of time on reloading. The Gunner's Autocannon, Driller's Flamethrower, Engie's Breach Cutter and Scout's M1000 are the most generous, but it's possible with just about any weapon that needs to be reloaded. To do this, watch your ammo counter when reloading. As soon as you see the next mag get refilled, quickly tap the pickax key and let go to skip the rest of the animation. - You can bunnyhop to a certain extent. Anything that adds speed or momentum to you can be carried a little further by hopping right as you touch the floor. Hot magma in the Magma Core and thorns from Hollow Bough boost your speed when you're hurt by them, which you can carry a bit by hopping. If you're using the Dash perk, you can also extend the speed boost a bit by jumping right before it wears off. - In the mission On-Site Refinery, you can save yourself from falling by holding E before hitting a pipe, similar to Gunner's ziplines. - In Point Extraction, enemy waves spawn faster and faster as time progresses. So don't take too long. It only takes about 15-20 minutes for swarms to be non-stop. - In Escort Duty, only 1 person needs to repair Doretta at a time. 2+ people doesn't speed up the repair speed at all. - When running the Iron Will perk, you can self-revive by healing at any time during the perk's duration. This will save you from dying after the invincibility wears off, but also doesn't cancel the invincibility duration either! The Vampire perk synergizes well with this, as you can just melee-kill a single Grunt to save yourself from dying. - And I just wanna mention that Born Ready is my favorite perk. It's basically "backpack reloading" from old games like Half Life. After swapping to another weapon, any weapons/tools that need reloading will reload automatically after a short time. If you can get a rhythm going between weapons, you'll basically never need to reload! This has the added bonus of letting you skip "reload speed" upgrades in favor of more damage or other effects.
@aeldariambitions63342 жыл бұрын
In addition to your point about On-Site Refining, even a totally green Driller basically trivializes pipe running between the rig and the pumpjacks. So often there's one that's way high up on a ledge, or down in a crevice, or in a room off to the side somewhere. A driller can just tunnel right to it and make pipe placing a breeze! Although, do be wary of bugs sneaking up on you during the tunneling process. Remember to bring a buddy at all times, if only so they eat him first.

@potterinhe112 жыл бұрын
Here's my tip: Don't be afraid to jump from high places (as long as they aren't lethal falls) as getting a hang of how much punishment your stumpy little legs can take before your shield breaks can make navigating much more manageable, and can even save you if you need to jump away from an incoming hoard to save yourself from being downed if it means only taking a small amountof damage. Most of the environment is climbable so keep an eye out for things such as protruding crystals, mushrooms to make the jump shorter, and even your fellow dwarves you can land on to cushion the fall entirely! You can even slide down any wall with even a slight slope in order to redirect your momentum away from the ground, just beware that you can get too much momentum when you jump and be sent flying down into another death pit.
@joshmay29442 жыл бұрын
I'd add onto this to get familiar with the ledge grab - you might be surprised with how high up you can actually grab, and being able to quickly identify climbable ledges and jumps in the terrain while say kiting an entire swarm, can easily mean the difference between life and death in some situations.

On a related note: if you're on a ledge somewhere and are about to get mobbed, better to jump and take your chances with fall damage than get downed somewhere high up and hard to reach. The easier it is for your teammates to get to you, the faster you'll be on your feet again.

An important detail that Sniss didn't mention is to use all your weapons/tools and don't only stick to your primary weapon for two main reasons 1. The weapons and tools are designed for different roles so it's best to even out the ammo so that you always have the tools for an encounter, instead of being caught out not having ammo for the gun best suited for a situation 2. Resupplies don't fill you guns to full but give 50% ammo to EVERY gun/tool and doesn't specify a single one, which means if you use a resupply and you only used your primary weapon you will only get 50% ammo for your primary, and the ammo for your secondary, utility, movement tool, and grenades go to waste

If whatever you're climbing is too steep, at most you will look like an idiot for a few seconds so its worth testing what you can and cant climb. If you or somebody else plans on getting up or down the slope a few times, it may be best to use movement tools to make the climb a bit easier.

You are my favourite You Tuber at this point dude! Your content nails the sound & atmosphere perfectly, & your sense of humour is modest, snappy & dry. Yet your knowledge of DRG is extensively authentic. Thanks for putting the time in to make these. They are special, & I revisit your channel to watch your content a few times lol! If you don't Rock and Stone...

Literally just bought this game and am about to start playing because I randomly found a meme video while browsing YT. Funny how that works. Don't know how I missed out on something so overwhelmingly loved by its community for 5 years.

I tried the game on free play weekend and enjoyed it so much i bought it right away with the supporter DLC, because i never had this much fun ever with a video game. Thanks a bunch for the video. Had a good time watching it. ROCK AND STONE!!!

A tip I've learned is that if you're clumsy and prone to falling from large heights a lot (or lazy and often just want to get straight to the bottom of the pit asap), equip the hover boots perk and use them to break your fall. It's best to activate them about 5 dwarve's heights above ground because they take a second to actually bring you to a hover

Hi! A VERY Greenbeard here. I had heard about DRG having one of the best communities out there, so thought of giving it a try. Bought the game, did the tutorial, then browsed the server tab for a game. But, there were NO hazard 1 and 2 games, and I thought that no one would join a game that I hosted (not true, but yeah, I did haha). So, I joined a HAZARD 3 AS MY FIRST EVER GAME OF DRG. Got lost, overwhelmed, and since I was the scout of the team, they were kinda annoyed. But NO ONE talked shit to me. No one. Just helped me figure stuff out. Even though I team killed by mistake, no one got pissed! Just cheers of “ROCK AND STONE!” were ringing in the caves. I was smiling SO fucking wide. I love this game, and I love the people that play it, SO fucking much.

I cant tell you how sick this video was being mad educational and in making me want to progress even more than i already did, im running with a driller build atm and having this brush over everything in the game without giving it all away will really help me decide upgrades and how i want to continue. Thanks man your channels great and ur really helping a lot of greenbeards out haha

Other tips for green beards: -learn to use melee attacks, esp the power attack, saves ammo & great for handing clustered swarmers -events in a mission are not essential esp when you are starting out and might be running solo. Don't feel bad about skipping them until you find your beard.

Great video. I'm glad you spent a good deal of time talking about the terrain scanner and the ping tool. Those are super, super useful tools and when you get in the hang of pulling them up often you will find that you have a better understanding of what is happening and how to move through the caves. New players should get into the habit of regularly tapping CTRL just to see where your team and the resupplies are, and to see how much ammo everyone has, and to see how many resources have been deposited. Pay attention to that nitra total, you always want that above at least 80 (so you can always call a resupply when you need one).

make sure to buy all of the armor upgrades in the terminal, even once you've gotten the ones you actually want. doing so will permanently increase your default health (you can see a progress bar at the bottom of the upgrades box) - i didn't realize this until quite late and it would have been nice to have the extra HP in the early days

Great vid; only thing I'd think I'd change would be to consider getting that first promotion unlocked as a short term goal (right after completing the Conquering Hoxxes assignments) since it unlocks what I'd consider the main course of long term goals: Overclocks. Took me right at 500 hours to finally get all of those, but in all fairness I'm essentially arguing semantics here, heh. Besides, dropping overclocks on greenbeards could be a bit of information overload...not to mention it's a lot of fun to hop in a mission and have them go "how tf did you shoot them with a nuke?" or "what just deleted that menace/spitter/etc.?"

The one thing that I highly recommend is when you want to know what something is, point the laser pointer at it, it will tell you the name and distance of everything in the game, and in combo with miners manual, very handy thing.

A section on getting back to the drop pod would be great for any beginners guide... things along the lines of making sure you have an easy run back when digging through packed dirty, having drillers be ready to rescue players that are lagging behind, keeping enough nitra to call in a resupply before calling the drop pod, etc, etc.

Great video only thing I would of add would be machine events, since a lot of new players don't understand what they are and maybe forced to do it because of a higher level dwarf starting it.

A tip for scouts, green beard or not: I’ve found it’s helpful to top off my ammo just before calling the drop pod and then running ahead of the team shooting flares marking and lighting the path to the drop pod. Makes it easier for your teammates who can’t zip across the caves. They don’t have to worry about not seeing something. Plus scout is usually faster then Molly.

Big thanks for this. Was playing the game for a good while (10 hours already), and while I figured out a lot of this over time, I was without a clue about the perks. I kept thinking that screen was some arbitrary achievement chasing system the way it looked, and given everything else big was outside those rooms, I had no clue anything of real value would be there. Likewise I was bugged about the dwarf promoting thing. Level 25 is a long way to go without a solid clue, but now I at least have an idea in my mind that I'm not exactly missing anything. For others, this will be an even bigger help given I was a few levels through before I realized how to get more ammo, and while I learned about it on my own, it got anxiety inducing to run low and thinking "this level better end before my shotgun rounds do..."

Using the "align to view" button on the terrain scanner is super useful. It makes your character turn to face the direction your terrain scanner is rotated to, which is incredibly useful for navigating. I didn't learn this for over a hundred hours and I'd constantly been wishing this was a mechanic. I had never realised it existed the whole time. I use this every time I get to a compact dirt wall, because you open the scanner, turn the viewpoint to face the direction of the cave you want to dig to, and then hit space, and my dwarf automatically rotates to face that direction. It doesn't aim you upwards or downwards, just rotates you horizontally, so you don't need to worry about the vertical angle on the scanner, just the rotation. Its super useful and easy to miss.

This is kind of a personal tip, but whenever you're on the on-site refining missions, if you HAVE to cross pipes, make sure they don't get in eachother's way if someone tries to grind on them. Either one can go below or above but it's just a lot more convenient for everyone.
