Hey, I'm know to cross stitch, and I'm learning so much. Thank you! One thing I do know is knitting, which is wear the term "frogging" comes from. In knitting, when you need to take out a lot of stitches, you take out your needles, grab the end of the yarn, and "rip-it, rip-it, rip-it". You frog it 🐸

Same for cross stitching. I love how the terms cross over for different fibre arts :)

Very useful video! Even for experienced stitches, lol. I would love to see a series of videos for advanced stitchers. Some examples would be how to mount linen with correct tension in hoops or Q snaps, then how to maintain that tension. Another good one would be tips and tricks for stitching 1 over 1 on evenweave or linen. Another great one would be how to grid mark on linen or evenweave without drawing on 3 rows at once. Anyway, love the content! ❤

Ford….I really appreciate your presentation style…….You share a number of ways to correct an error…..but so appreciate the last explanation which is so culturally rich with wisdom …….oh maybe a reminder for people like me not to do this when You are over-tired……I am a morning personality…..and I can usually handle it with some rest……

Totally the opposite. I know better than to attempt anything that requires use of a brain before 9 AM! But it's good to know one's limitations, lol.

Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed your video. When I go back to the piece, I was working on months ago called whale in a lightbulb. I will be facing an area that will need major frogging. I use the wrong shade of blue and it’s a fairly large area, but now, I will look at it with a different eye and if I have to frog it, I will only do selective areas and fill it in with the correct thread so it may look more natural. Thank you thank you for a wonderful video.

Excellent, thank you, very nice and useful video and I also loved the "an on the fly customization that you made accidentally" 👩🎨 An other option, for me at least, when I stitch on a full coverage project and I make a mistake which I notice later on, as long as it's not very important of course, I stitch over it. I have a full coverage project which I stitch on 25ct Lugana one over one. So when I make a mistake in an area with different shades of blue etc, which they look almost the same anyways, I just stitch over it and it works. It's really annoying undoing one over one stitches so I try to avoid it 😊🪡🧵🎄

Yes, be careful with seam rippers! I also sew and numerous times, I have sliced the side of my finger, resulting in some bleeding! I recently did a DMC kit and I didn't like how one small section looked. I adapted it with a few new rows and I think it looks better than how it originally was supposed to look like. I spy with my little eye, an orange cat with green eyes during the part about the sounds of frogging. I love cats so thats how I noticed it. One tip that I do when I have to frog a lot is cry, put away the project for a bit (even 5 minutes helps) and then I'm not so angry or upset when undoing the stitches.
@SonovaStitch Жыл бұрын
OMG, I didn't even notice! That's Caramel. She's a Bengal (a real one, not just a stripey orange cat) and she's the reason Nugget hasn't been in recent videos. Crying is almost always good advice! But yes, never frog angry! Good tip!

@@SonovaStitch I work from home and FaceTime customers. The other day, one of my customers had a beautiful orange and black cat named Rocket. My customer then went around her house showing me her other NINE cats!! Then she started her appointment with me 😅

I‘m rather new to cross stitching and thoroughly enjoy and appreciate your videos and calm voice - thanks! One question, what is a good/easy way to stop fraying on the fabric edges when working on a project?
@SonovaStitch Жыл бұрын
I use either a zigzag stitch on my sewing machine or a blanket stitch. I'll make a video later about how to do those both!
@janetrothwell4448 Жыл бұрын
I just saw someone who used washi tape on their edges. I have previously zigzagged around mine but will try the washi tape idea on my next project and see how long it will last.

I never knew this was called frogging! I tend to either do frogging or leave it and work around it. No one has never noticed my mistakes!

It really is personalise preference isn't it. We don't like to call them mistakes - we call them personalisations! :)

I started cross stitching 30 years ago and had no one to teach me. My husband was stationed in Italy and I was there with him. I picked up a kit from the base craft store and the rest was history. Being self- taught has given me the ability to shrug my shoulders when someone tells I am doing something wrong....as long as the finished product is beautiful there is no wrong way! But thanks to you and others, I am learning some really cool tricks that are much faster than my old ways@
@margarethayes256 Жыл бұрын
I have always heard that it is called frogging because of the frog sound, “rabbit, ribbit” , which sounds like “rip it, rip it”.
@margarethayes256 Жыл бұрын
I really should proofread! Ribbet, Ribbet!
@SonovaStitch Жыл бұрын
I think it's a combination of the two, with both reasons reinforcing each other.

I second Ford’s caution to be VERY CAREFUL using a seam ripper. I’ve cut my material before…ugh!!!
@SonovaStitch Жыл бұрын
I've seen it many times and it's heartbreaking!
@wendyleland3986 Жыл бұрын
It's called frogging because you have to rip it, rip it, rip it out (ribbit, ribbit, like a frog) 🐸
@bryndiscurtin6481 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! It's not the sound😅
@SonovaStitch Жыл бұрын
I think it's both, reinforcing each other. One of those memetics things like "in like flynn" that just sounds good so it catches on.

Some cultures do indeed make a deliberate "mistake" because "Only God is perfect" - I must admit I say this a lot!! When pulling out a thread, use a quilter's pin with a beaded end, much easier to find, and safer, when it backflips away!
