For anyone still on the fence: Coding isn't bad at all! You can always start slow. The more you do it, the easier it will be. Who knows, you might want to make a game where the coding aspect isn't particularly convoluted or difficult.

@@gremulition2993 It depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to make games? I only do it as a hobby I work in web dev. GMS2 has its own full language so if you want to make stuff with game maker studio 2 I suggest watching stuff and following directions closely. The only way to get good at something involving coding is to do it over and over again. And you don't get better by making things you don't want. Make things you like

For me, I started out with drag and drop back in gamemaker 8. I was scared of code as it was just so foreign to me. However, drag and drop was real simple as the icon with the 8 directions meant I could move my character in any of those directions, it was straight to the point! But yes, code is definitely superior. I got out of drag and drop once I started making more "complex" games that needed way more variables and math. It was out of necessity that I started learning GML. I started off small with converting what I had in drag and drop into lines of code. I realized my super long chain of drag and drop symbols could be converted into a few lines of code! I was completely sold on code from then on. I personally don't think I would have gotten into coding if it wasn't for Gamemaker's drag and drop system so I do thank gamemaker's dnd system even if it's not that powerful.

I wish there was an alternate universe I could go to where you made Godot tutorials. Your stuff is pretty much the best I've watched, while most other (Godot included) tutorials are just watching someone rush through and explain things as if they were talking to themselves. I don't like Heartbeast's videos either because he teaches as if he has no damn clue what he's doing and it's frustrating to watch. Especially if you paid 80 bucks on one of his courses... I deeply regret it. You explain exactly what you're doing and why. Even when you code something that's not quite optimal (like that sticky left/right stopped movement) I still learn from it. So you're the best!

Great into. I've wanted to make a game since playing SNES in the 90's, but never could even comprehend the basics of programming, much less get a game going. Been a bit since I worked in a game engine and GameMaker already feels better to me than Unity did for learning stuff. Used your tutorial in combination with some stuff from GameMaker's manual to get movement going and even figured out how to make WASD work on top of the arrow keys without doubling the movement speed by myself, which bodes well for my understanding of the coding rules. I'll have to take some notes and potentially hand code some stuff on paper to make sure I know the keywords but very excited to get back into game dev from the more practical perspective rather than the theoretical spaces I've been playing in for a while because I disliked the game engines I knew about and didn't wanna find more.
