@@timw4113 i don't know about remission but it can make you feel like you don't have it anymore and will come back if you eat carbs.

@@vannafillion6738 Annette, the honest thing for you to do is define "carbs." You throw that word around like there is only one. Complex carbs come from nature - they grow from the soil. Nothing is more healthy for human consumption than nature's complex carbs. Man-made carbs come from food factories - billionaires process grains, stripping the germ, the nutrients, the fiber, and their nutrient-depleted concoction is sold as pizzas, burgers, bread, and all the usual low nutrition, high-caloric "foods processed by billionaires and sold by fast-food stores & supermarkets. People who eat those, along with meat & dairy & bottled oils are overfed and undernourished. Of course, Annette, we both understand if you make this stark distinction between nature's carbs and nan's carbs, your argument against "carbs" falls apart, even becomes stupid. Annette, you should stick to treating colds and diaper rash. When it comes to keto and plant-based nutrition, you are in way over your bimbo head.

A doctor that openly admits to being wrong in the past is a rare gem. The term doctor actually means teacher and Dr. Boz is an excellent example of the best in that profession! I have been studying everything keto for over 4 years now, and believe that I have learned more from Dr. Bozworth than from all other sources combined. Indeed, she often provides little pieces of information that results in a much better understanding of things I had previously learned.

I read the books by Dr. Boz and on June 20, 2022 started keto. I had tried keto before and failed because I did not measure the things Dr. Boz has you measure in her book. All I can say is wowzer! Only after three days of being on keto by fasting blood sugar has gone from 108 to 93 and I have already lost an inch from my waist. My shin print went from a 3 to a 2 in only three days. Overall I feel better, think more clearly and have more energy. If this is what happens after only three days, I can't wait to see what happens after 30 days of keto!

I grew up eating mostly vegetarian/carbs: Chinese foods, Twinkies, and Ding Dongs. Even though I was a skinny kid, I was sick all the time, and I could barely run a few steps in high school. I went on keto/carnivore when I became pre-diabetic. Today age > 50, my blood work is perfect, my vision is perfect, I can keep up with the 20 something on the Insanity workout, and I can work on my yard morning to night. Removing carbs make a huge difference in my life. My mom used to say that I had all the leftover bad DNA, but it was really the poor eating habits that was ruining my health.

Following your previous videos and some N=1 self-testing I have been doing the following and feel great: 1. Had cut sugar a few months back and added avocados and olive oil to my diet 2. Started replacing fat instead of carbs in my diet in the last three weeks 3. Started taking 1 spoon/day of MCT C8 pure oil for a week, now moving to 3 spoons/day as I did not have any bowl issues 4. Started fasting 16/8 on weekdays and 36 hours fast on Fridays (the first on Good Friday), taking only coffee and a bit of heavy cream (plus water) and 1 spoon of MCT C8 pure oil [ I use the free ZERO app to keep track of fasting, it's so easy and frictionless, highly recommended] 5. Keeping track of sleep and exercise with an Oura ring, highly recommended My issue is that I do not count calories and am not exercising as much as I should, so I am not losing weight as much as I probably could, but I am fine with that, I am not doing it just to lose weight, my goal is lower inflammation and longevity, and all the other good things I heard from you as well as Dom D'Agostino, Peter Attia et al. In other words, I'm in for the long run, the objective is to change habits going forward. I just wish I could get the Fora 6, cannot get it in Italy at the moment, will buy it during my next trip to the US. Since I'm an engineer, I would not mind getting a CGM monitor such as the Dexcom G6 (just to see what happens in my body as I go through meals/sleeping/traveling etc, I am a geek/nerd after all), but I will leave that for later Now the tough part will be to convince my wife to follow in my steps, with this latest video you may have just gifted me with a potential great incipit, I will buy the BHB for her and my teenage kids when I come to the US. Will update, thanks for all your help, your kindness and down-to-earthness makes the journey fun and enjoyable. Marco

I wish I knew this decades ago. I am in my mid sixties. Both my self and wife have been on the Keto diet for two months. The original reason I tried this was to lose weight. That is working. I also want to put mine and wife's type two diabetes into permanent remission. I started out on the diet the first month. Now most days I do one meal a day. And the last three weeks been doing an extended fast. Two day or three day fast per week. I am bull headed and just force my body to do my bidding. Betty I have been coaching and she is now on one meal a day. I have been doing five mile hikes during fast days and most days of the week. I am a deep south southern. It helps me that I can have non starchy vegetables on the diet. Vegetables are a significant part of my culture. I put fat on them of some kind. Also corn bread, beans and biscuits are part of my culture. All given up. BTW my fasting sugar is trending down. It was last time I checked in the high normal range. My ketone level was 1.9 mmoles/L in my blood. The level has dropped in my urine and blood as I have become fat adapted. Thanks for the info. It is helping me and I have recommend this diet to friends and relatives.

Hello Dr. Boz, I find your talks very informative but I don’t completely understand autophagy. I am interested in autophagy and the benefits that it may bring. If I understand correctly, the best way to achieve autophagy is through fasting. I am 67 years old, 170cm tall, and my average weight is 61.5kg. I feel good and don’t think I have any medical problems. In my youth, I was into weight lifting and weighed at my peak around 100kg. I have been living in Japan going on 30 years now and have been away from the American diet, which I believed at that time to be a healthy way of eating. I live on Yakushima, a small island where people have vegetable gardens so vegetables are the main food here. I basically have two meals a day, which is a whole food plant based diet, no processed foods. I guess you might say I intermittent fast for around 16 to 20 hours a day. I have fasted for three days with no difficulties. I have gradually, over the past ten years, quit eating any animal products except for a little milk in my coffee. If I am not eating for 16 to 20 hours, am I in the state of autophagy? I have never checked my ketone levels but I do have my annual physical and have my blood glucose level checked, which was 82mg/dl. In your opinion, what would be the ideal length of time and frequency for the body to benefit the most from being in the state of autophagy?
@panpiper5 жыл бұрын
Actual full on autophagy doesn't really start until you've been fasting for around 48 hours, or so it would appear from the little science knows at the moment. (I do a 95 hour fast once a month so as to benefit from autophagy, working on pushing that an extra 24 hours.) The main benefit of intermittent fasting is that it gives your digestive system a rest and your body a break from being flooded with insulin, it is not so much the autophagic effect. You will also be getting a small amount of ketogenic effect after 12 hours even if you are still eating a carb diet. By all means, continue the eating/fasting time pattern you have established. Just try to avoid 'any' snacking at all that might contain carbs, outside of that eating window. If you absolutely must snack on something outside of your eating window, make it some sort of fat bomb that contains virtually zero carbs. You will lose the digestive system rest, but it won't spike insulin.

Well ... one glucose check a year is not going to cut it. There are too many variables. It wouldn’t take much to better understand. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I struggle with the notion that you can’t loose weight if you have insulin in your blood. I’m prescribed 70 units of meal time and 140 units of long acting insulin at night, I’m pretty sure there is insulin in my bloodstream at all times. My initial mealtime insulin 20 years ago was 16 units at mealtime and no basal insulin. My weight over this time has consistently risen with my increasing insulin dosage. I think I’m stuck because I have so much stored glucose (glucagon) that unless I continue to use my insulin I could end up with high fat and high sugars thereby risking keto acidosis. My endo basically said he wouldn’t treat me if I wouldn’t follow his advice. How can I find doctors who are open to a keto / IF regime? I feel as though I’m falling through the cracks.

Maura Buller About 21g of carbs / sugars spikes insulin and kicks you out of ketosis + puts you in fat storage mode for at least 4 hours per the insulin response (dependent on carb source of course) So, fibrous and cruciferous veggies + nuts + other low carb proteins and/or fats are absolutely key. Avocados are great too. Huge lists available , just try not to have a daily intake that spikes insulin

I cannot take hormone replacements cause my body is too sensitive to it and it jacks me up worse. I do have to watch my sugar levels because they will jump up high if eat too much sugar. My A1C is normal though. But as soon as my sugar gets to 100 I can feel the changes in my body with vision and head tension. I was on metformin for 3 years and they took me off it when I had the hysterectomy. I have sever night sweats and if I am having a lupus flare my temp runs 100.4 for a few days with swelling, inflammation, joint pain, overall blah and tired. I know this is a lot but I feel like you have the understanding that help put me in the right direction. my Lupus doc doesn't like the keto diet due to kidney issues and with lupus he doest want to flare them up. But my Lupus is characterized at the moment beside the tiredness, skin issues, and joint pain and chronic fatigue all the time. Thanks.

Been Carnivore for 2.8 months yet I needed this to increase fats to raise Ketones. I bought your on sale program yesterday and excited to relearn wtf to release my body from over heating. I barely eat carbs but then I've got Autoimmune AS. Do I need a blood glucose A1C etc testing as Canadians like me can't obtain the product-it's only for Americans. I need answers, please please

I have seen some mention about detoxing parasites from the body. Is this true? Do you have a video about intestinal parasites? I have a lot of cats that come and go it the house, so I worry about toxoplasmosis.

Hi Dr. Boz. Im learning so much from you. Thank you so much for you content! ❤ Question: If you're fasting to accelerate autophagy, will the mct oil interrupt that process by breaking the fast?

Dr. Boz, do you recommend the BHB from someone who is going from the 200 Club (no high blood pressure or diabetes) to the 100 Club week as well? I didn't see that in the CK. Thanks.

I have been eating keto for a while . And then sort of fell off But now back on. Now I have to get back to intermittent fasting.What I am doing when I am in my eating window is use the MCT ‘s and fermented foods .which loose the sugar when fermented.Plus high fat milk kefir .Now that I am getting accustom to the sour taste it seems to take away that desire to stimulate my taste beds for sweet flavours. But I am using your advise with the MCT’s first to get me into ketoses .What do you think about fermenting foods to get the nutrition from during my eating window ?

Okay, so we are all in agreement that ketones have a positive influence on the brain and weight loss, but let me ask this, how do you exercise on a ketogenic diet without losing energy? Primarily weight training is my main concern, not being able to provide adequate fuel to the muscles to finish reps.
@Vexarax Жыл бұрын
Your comment is old sorry, but I just do the exercise and the energy is there? I have more energy now than I ever did when eating carbs (I’d often just stay on the couch instead of leaving the house when I was running on carbs, couldn’t think, always tired etc). If you’re getting tired, maybe up the protein? There are a lot of carnivore body builders now who say it’s actually easier to build muscle while remaining lean now that they’re only eating meat :)

@@Vexarax That's very good advice. Thank you for the feedback!

Do I need to eat protein, fat, and carbs proportionally in each meal, or, may I eat over the course of the day in any proportion, as long as I get the desired sum of macros portions and percentages by the end of each day? Thanks for helping me understand.

Well, the statement that our brains prefer ketones over glucose, the study only involved 10 people. How can you rely on this?

I’ve been doing lchf now for 10 months....I am apparently very insulin resistant as even with staying to 20 g carbs a day, I have never gotten my ketone level over .4-.5. Average is .2-.3. II took first dose of Max Strength BHB Capsules hoping to increase my ketones for two weeks while I upped my intermittent fasting to e dry other day...Using Precision Xtra ketone meter, this mornings reading was .4 prior to exogenous ketones and 2 hrs later, it was the same. Did I test too late? Did I use them all? Can you explain?

Dr Boz, I was wondering what happens to the glucose if ketones are present and being used? Do you peep it out? How does the glucose come out of your system?

Don't give up...it is so worth the wait. Mine hardly moved while my husband's dropped like a rock. 5 months now and down 60. It takes longer for women...so worth it to not have aches and pains. Brain is firing off so much quicker also.

Dr. Boz, how is this different from diabetic keto acidosis? I thought the presence of high glucose and high ketones was the problem not having ketones and low glucose?

I have the BHB and love it with HWC and almond milk. 1 question, how much of it can I use in a day?
@DoctorBoz5 жыл бұрын
Tamara Hyde - you CAN use quite often. BHB only lasts a couple of hours .. so think of smaller doses several times when you’re early in the transition. When I use them for a “rescue” I usually just need one “dose.
