Glad to see you’re just as prone to all or nothing thinking as many of the rest of us! My immediate thought about your body’s response was you just came off a week which was filled with stress and you were supplementing with a lot of exogenous ketones. So is it possible that the body has to readjust to not having a lot of supplementation? Furthermore, as we continue on this journey long term, the body adjusts to this new normal as we reach a healthy metabolic state. (Notice I didn’t say the weight number we think would be ideal.) I love that you’re honest and transparent with your viewers, keep teaching and sharing! It’s a gift God has called you to share with the world!

Hi Dr. Boz- I used to watch you religiously, I was living a keto life...and then the pandemic happened and my marriage was falling apart at the same time. In 2020 I looked great, but then I decided to try going vegetarian/vegan. Well, for my insulin resistance it wasn't that good...I ate way too many carbs and food became my go to comfort. Seriously, I was eating all the "good things" or so I thought..still using stevia, etc...but I got into the habit of making oatmeal cakes, even using gluten free flour....blah blah blah..suffice it to say my portion sizes of my "healthy" pasta were way too big...and even though I grow and can my own vegetables, I still managed to gain 50 lbs. Well, about 2 weeks ago I got a wake up call with my bloodwork. My cholesterol was 259 (I was always about 180) and my blood sugar glucose was 159! My A1c was still not prediabetic, or so my doc said (it was too close to the line for me)..so, since I am 64 years old, and now divorced, with a really disabled back (which doesn't stop my homesteading lifestyle) my fear drove me right back to keto, immediately! I ordered a new KetoMojo monitor and supplies since my old supplies expired and the new monitor is paired with my phone, which I love. On April 28 my glucose was 108 at 4:18 pm, and on May 1 my glucose was 109 at 9:47 am. Ok, that made me even more determined....and lo and behold this morning my glucose was 86!!! My ketones registered at .8, so I am in light ketosis and I am on my way! I have to change from my liquid vitamins, (specifically magnesium to sleep) and change all the things I have that have hidden carbs. That is a lot of things...even the "keto " friendly snacks are full of crap! Anyway, I managed to stop myself from becoming a diabetic (I was deluding myself that I was eating healthy! Nope...keto is the way for me. I was literally eating and feeling horrible, and I knew something was going on...in TWO weeks I have changed everything! It CAN be done!!! Now I have hope...I will be repeating my blood work in a few days and am optimistic. I again have direction and I have YOU! I am so happy that I am following you again, in two weeks I have totally changed my life. Thank You!🐱

I am having no trouble staying super low carb though I do allow for my flaxseeds and chia seeds so I am not fiber free keto but I prioritize proteins and fats the most. I am keeping my fasts to 36 hrs twice a month for the time being. (True water fasts with caffeine only) like you, i find this type of fast meaningful from a mental and spiritual stand point. If I ever decide to do a 72hr at some point for the immune system benefits, I would definitely make it an mct and sardine challenge. I now eat sardines at least 3 times a week with just the juice and zest of a lime, and like it quite a lot. I always think to myself, here go Dr Boz’s sardines! :) Thanks again for all your teachings.

I think keto is great for illness issues (miracles imo) and great for fat loss, however I think by itself it can only take you so far regarding body measurements. Once we get healthy, and lower in fat, it won't help beyond that too much. From there, we have to focus on building muscle and strength to go further. That will take some concentrated effort. But that could be the next journey

Really great info from Boz. Some feedback - This episode would be so much even more so helpful to the viewers if it shed some hard truths on what was happening during the low Ketone drop offs, specifically what meals were consumed at the end of those highs. It seems unfortunately more of a long marketing video for MCT oil. 100% more than anything specific foods eaten at the end of all those challenges and highs during the Lows were the real reason for stagnate progress and numbers falling off not trying to boost ketone "stats" with MCT oil.
@kbuchanan20264 ай бұрын
Yes, it is marketing. She won't admit that getting the ketones up on Keto Mojo with exogenous ketones is not the same as fat adaptation and converting body fat into ketones. She can't seem to see the narratives re ketones don't work clinically. The marketing slant for her products is in the way. She is always suggesting any other explanation than using exogenous ketones this way doesn't work. I suggest listening to Dr. Eric Westman and Dr. Stephen Phinney if one wants to lose body fat. Fiddling around with exogenous ketones will not get you there. Also, those with eating disorder background probably should not do fasting beyond 16:8.

Her body did adjust because despite all of the fasting and avoiding carbs all she did was maintain her weight and a high body fat percentage. The only way to lose weight is by being in a calorie deficit. She was not consuming fewer calories of energy than she was using. If she had been, she would have lost some fat/ weight. It’s not a great advertisement for the ketogenic diet.

I want my body to run and burn my own fat and its keytones, it makes no sense to bring in extra fats and oils to trick the body. That may work for maintaining or maybe you dont have much to loose but a couple of pounds but obese people are just prolonging weightloss by eating the extra oils and fats. I sure dont want a test to give me a hign reading from something I "ingested" and has nothing to do at all with the fact if I burned any of my own fat that day and how much. I only want to know what my own body fat burning and ketones are.
@eriksmith47919 ай бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. From my understanding, your body will 1st process exogenous/nutritional fats-ketones then 2nd your body’s stored fat-ketones. So, measuring blood ketones after ingesting exogenous ketones wouldn’t show your body’s processing your own fat (and weight loss). Am I missing something?
@tesoroforever9 ай бұрын
@eriksmith4791 Exactly... all it does is prove ketosis, that is all. When I eat just protein in moderate amounts my ketones run 8-12 on a breathalyzer and I drop weight at a good steady pace but when I eat fried pork fat and other high fat foods (they say you should eat) it goes way over 35 and my weight loss completely stalls until I stop the high fat meals, so clearly my body stops burning my own body fat with high fat meals. The high fat method may work on slightly overweight people or those who lift heavy weights but not on the average obese person. So I have learned for me to lose fat I eat the amount of protein my body needs, no more and try to stay on the lean side of any protein I am eating if possible. Once in a while I cheat with fat instead, like bacon as a treat. I dont want my body to be busy burning the bacon, I want it busy burning my belly so I dont do it often. I have been doing a variation of adkins/keto for decades so for me at least.....keeping the fats low always gets me back to my goal much much quicker.

Dr Boz there is new research that as we age, we should put on a bit more weight and signals health if moderate. Also, I think your body is going after the lean mass bc too much autophagy and ur body needs precisely what’s in your muscle. So eat more. Try Mindy’s advice of 20g protein and 50 carbs per day to stay in autophagy. But I think you need more protein and carb. Maybe throw in a day where you eat whatever as we are meant to feast once in a while and that carb confusion is good for a healthy woman. Thank you for explaining the wealth of ketones. I have found i do lousy without carbs and super awesome when i do 80-100 carbs, 2-3 days a week.
@momlife1123 Жыл бұрын
Guys, you want your body to make ketones from your OWN BODY FAT to decrease your fat mass. If you keep supplementing with high fat food, MCT oil, butter, exogenous ketones, your body will always use that first. Dr. Boz is fasting for 3 days, using her own fat, and then erasing her gains by overeating overt fats. TO lose fat mass do this: OMAD and keep carbs under 20 and keep total calories under maintenance. -walk or work out in a fasted state -do 72 hour fasts every 2 weeks your metabolic rate will NOT decrease because you have an unlimited supply of fat on your ass. Suddenly all the energy was there. This happened July 2023 and after that date there has not been any kind of fainty feel in the morning. Maybe prolonged fasting has profound effect on metabolism about which we don't have proper data yet in form of scientific studies. I took all the supplements like electrolytes and vitamins and L-carnitines of course. My beta hydroxybutyrate keto was 1.7 to 2.4 mmol/L very consistently every morning. I heard that eventually the need to add the electrolytes would subside and things would level off. It's been 2 months... I do measure Ketones in my urine (about 1.5) I "LOVE the way Keto makes me feel except getting the feeling of dehydration coming on almost everyday. It's constant. Firt I feel a headache coming , then I will feel twitcching in my calves, then later if I don't start chugging water I get a full blown head ache with aching across my neck and shoulders. What could be wrong ? Sometimes I just want to give up coz the dehydration is miserable....Thoughts ???

What happened to feeling good and looking good, without focusing on the numbers? What if we tested in the inverse? If you have a good few days were you felt great, you feel lean and you breezed through your day, then checked your levels and see what the numbers are and strive for that? I say this after years of Keto/Carnivore and testing. I did the testing for different reasons, I was looking to see if I could find any patterns to predict THS (related) numbers, since I am depended on that synthetic poison call Synthroid and have never had a "stable" level in 30 years. This is a form of living hell, but no MD seems to care. Is this not the type of metabolic flexibility we need? That is todays thought, tomorrow I might have a different opinion.

I found that working with a trainer specifically to build muscle, helped me to lower my body fat and increase muscle over the course of a year (i.e. 3-4 structured strength training cycles). As we age, women need to strength train to build muscle. We can’t just hope for it I have found.

Good morning, when doing the sardine fast, is it just sardines or can I add herring? I eat those a lot (cooked) and wanted to ask because I want to try this sardine fast... And if it's just sardines, then I will do that. Thank you. Love your content!

Dr Boz if you will do a HIIT protocol called sprint 8 three times a week it will peel the fat off.

@DrBoz try longer than 72hr water fasts. I have experimented with longest I have done with strict water fasting with no exogenous ketones/MCT oil is 7 days I felt the maximum benefit was a 96 hr than ketones would level off and not rise anymore usually topping off at 4.5-5.5 mmol/L the brain was very on at that time

Have you ever tried reducing electrical sources where you sleep and checking your numbers. There is research that mitochondria dont function efficently in the presence of electrical fields. Would really be interested to find out🧐

I ordered you Mct gels and the BHB cucumber. So far when I drink the BHBs I’m not hungry at all, for the majority of the day but not the same results with MCTs, thoughts? Also, can I do the drink and MCTs in the same day?

I'm confused by your reference to the ketone levels. I have a ketomojo and have been taking my ketone and glucose level for 35 days. Always first thing in morning before coffee. I track my macros and calories and am under 30 total carbs a day and typically under 1200 calories. I like it when my keytones are above a 1, but that's not always the case. The last 5 days they've been over .5 and under 1. But I always considered that still in ketosis. I have never reached a reading of 2. After listening to your journey, I feel like I'm working really hard on this keto diet for nothing. Therefore, I'm just confused and frustrated. I have ordered your MCT pills (here tomorrow..yay!) and will incorporate to see if that makes a difference.

Ur comment is a few month old but i hope my comment will help anyway. With 1200 calories a day u r under eating, which cause ur metabolism to slow down a lot to survive. Try increasing the calories slowly day after day, until u get to a minimum of 2000. Then stay there. Ur body is gonna need time to "trust" again, and think that food will come. Carbs should be under 20g. Most people above 20g will get out of ketosis. High fat. Moderate proteins...

When I am on 16+ hours not eating and then take my morning numbers they are in the triple digits and low ketones. Not in ketosis. ….. so frustrating

Lol.. Snl used to be good. Based. I used to say the same thing about the Florida heat before I moved down here. After 6 years I love it. August and September are kinda miserable but the rest of the time is amazing. All this free vitamin D.

We create our own realities so if we become obsessive over looking at numbers and constant monitoring and need for perfection, our reality will keep reflecting that. Constantly being hard on our bodies and not seeing it as good enough, whether it's a number on a scale or ketone levels, manifests as a certain type of energy. Be less judgemental and hard on yourself for 'being human', as that's literally what we are on this planet. Using fasting/keto as a mask for underlying self-esteem issues doesn't work. At the root of all this is our ego's need for constant control and it is exhausting mentally and physically. Also our bodies not only respond to the relationship we cultivate with it through food but also through our daily routines, stress levels, mindset etc. I love fasting and keto too but everything in balanced moderation! Keeping our bodies in constant highly elevated cortisol states can't possibly be good for the long term. Before weight used to be the obsession in terms of if we saw ourselves as healthy or not and now it seems like obsessive blood glucose and ketone monitoring are the next fad- we are multi-dimensional beings and health will never be able to be reduced to a number. Please be more compassionate to yourselves everyone!

I am on my 4th day and have my Keto-Mojo meter Dr. Boz MAX SRENGTH BHB CAPSULES. I took 4 yesterday when I received the delivery and 4 today. Morning numbers K=8 and G = 111. Tonight was 4 and G was 106. I have no idea at this time what that means but will find out from the meter people. I have lost a few pounds.

13 years keto to carnivore. My ketones never go over .4 without fasting or taking exogenous ketones

If I took that much MCT I'd be in the bathroom constantly. Fortunately my ketones pretty much stay above 1.5 all the time and peak close to 4 at times.

I’m just curious no disrespect I’ve been watching these videos for a long time and it appears that maybe Dr. Boz eats what she wants during the week Friday hit since she knows that she hast to fast in order to show her numbers to the public. I wonder if going in and out of ketosis will eventually cause your body to fight ketosis longer and it takes longer to do that you would think the body with adjust to that lifestyle. Just curious

I've been on carnivore for 4 months. Until about 10 days ago my ketones were between 1.5-2.5 most of the day. I test with a blood meter. Now my ketones are between .3 and 1. Is this normal? I know our bodies become more efficient over time but 4 months doesn't seem long enough to be having low numbers.
@dozergetscrafty Жыл бұрын
My ketones always seem to be .7 to .9 in the AM but up to 1.8 by mid day

Hi Doc, I’m convinced that too much fasting will make the body believe it’s going to continue to starve, and go into preservation mode. But that’s just my personal belief. You look great, why you stress so much over your weight? Enjoy life by just eating normal portions instead! God bless!

I know this is old but I'm hoping for some support. I have been on keto for a little over 2 weeks. I have been focused on under 20 carbs a day and Mt macros appear on target. My numer of ketones have been 1.1 after a 48 hour fast. A couple days ago I over ate on prime rib and I knew that it could raise insulin so the next day I fasted 20 hours and the next morning my morning numbers were 103/.7 then this morning 108/.6 technically out of ketosis. I'm super discouraged

I'm carnivore, and my ketons are 0.2-0.5 of im lucky . In days when I eat . When I fast 24h or 42h they go up to 1.8 ,once to 2.8. . They higher ever I had 3.8 when I had flu. 🤷♀️. So now I'm trying to fast 42 once a month, or 24h once a week. 16h fats doesn't feel like fasting to me, I'm not hungry .

What is the good Ketone range?
@onlymoney526 Жыл бұрын
My morning blood glucose has been in the low 80s and ketones in the 2.5 range. If I don’t eat past 4pm and keep carbs under 20. Is my body wasting ketones since they are so high? So much energy!

I just found your videos. I wake up to bg over 100. I took a screen shot of the Keto Continuum. I’m currently eating from 7:00 am until 1:00 pm. Fasting 18 hours, sometimes dry fasting sometimes having some water. My bg is dropping daily and my weight is slowly coming down as well. But, my BP won’t budge, 159/109 pulse 66. I started keto in 2020 , lost 75 lbs, got slack and gained back 50 lbs in the last 2 years. Not on any meds. Taking magnesium/potassium supplement and a Vit D3. Do you have any suggestions about how to get my BP Down? I’m currently eating bacon and eggs with creamed coffee. Eating beef as my 2nd meal with a sugar free caffeine free soda.
@stoptheinsanity Жыл бұрын
Quit the sugar free soda unless it's Zevia, and make sure you're getting enough salt. You could also try ashwagandha.
