You know, back in 2015/14-ish. I was living in Washington state. Going to school. And this channel help me pass several plant, identification, mushroom identification, and certainly assisted me and some of the other agricultural, permaculture, horticulture design and self-reliance classes! I’m glad Alfie’s back too, but this video is also the most extensive description of mushroom features used for ID that I’ve ever seen. I’m saving it as a reference to help with keying. The credit card example for gill type is the clearest explanation of how to choose which one I’m looking at; the color key for white, off white, beige, etc. is a great reference point. Excellent stuff, mate!

My favorite introduction to fungi so far! I myself am quite obsessed with fungi, and I really enjoyed the choice of species and the way you presented them, but also the small touches, like mentioning Fungi of Temperate Europe, which honestly is one of my dream mushroom books, although quite expensive where I live. To anyone venturing out into the world of identification, I wholeheartedly recommend The Collins guide to Fungi, and not only that, but any other Collins guide on any other topic such as trees, spiders, birds etc.

Some if not most epiphytic orchids (those that grow on trees and such) are dependent on fungus. Almost like the Ghost Pipe flower, young orchids will not establish nor survive without this relationship first.
