rule n. 1 in fungi: if not sure which one it is, don't collect/eat it. there are plenty of good ones, learn 5-10 and you are good to go.

Sleep aid while camping is the worst idea any camper could use. One does not to be so asleep he can't hear a bear sneaking up on his or her tent. I have been camping in the wilderness in Maine for more then 30 years. Places most have never been and nothing would get me to wear ear plugs or take some sort of sleep aid. Yes I have had to deal with a few bears in my life . I remember taking the family camping the deer were jumping over the tents like they were playing a game. To be honest it was funny yet cute but also scary knowing they could have landed on someone. The best Rule of camping is know where you will be camping and know what dangers it could hold such as Bears moose. Moose are clumsy and they tend to startle easy. If a Moose happens to walk by the tent and get startled they could attack the tent or fall on a tent and not many would like having a 1400 pound moose laying on them.

Foam mats I used once and realized they're useless for comfort. Get an inflatable mattress pad. Much better and takes up way less space and lite to carry

Good sir, thank you for this. Most are applicable to my trips, some I already found out by experience. However, and I fully understand how and why, there are so many temperature management tips in this video. Not that I much think them unnecessary, but that all of them is for the cold. Good sir, I camp at the tropics and their isles in the pacific, I fully comprehend the shivering cold of stormy mountaintops, but I've yet to see it as much of a problem compared to the blistering heat and choosing a camping spot? The slopes are often riddled with thick roots and jagged rock, I most usually prefer a hammock most of the time, as the forests bear vicious ants that would habitually chew on nylon and polyester, even nest on cotton. The mountaintops are great if not for the ever-present ants, but the wind and unpredictable rain make it a pain when it pours like a storm for a minute every 5 hours. Might you have any tips for thee, good sir?

In Alberta, I always have a hard time sleeping with all the noise while camping. Once the coyotes and birds settle down, all the little critters are scurrying around the campsite trying to get into everything.

Charge your phone and double check your lights. Oh ya, and tell someone where you are going. When about 40, I decided to go sleep in the woods alone. Just for one night. I didn’t really plan, just grabbed a few things, sleeping bag, flashlight, canteen and a snickers candy. Thankfully I brought my Rottweiler named killer. Also female. It was late when I made it to a place in the forest and parked off the road. Hidden. Bushwhacked my way through the redwoods and crossed a deep trench of water by walking on a fallen tree. Found a flat spot by a stream and laid my sleeping bag on the ground. Thick fog rolled in and a full moon made an eerie light. I went to relieve myself away from my sleeping spot and was surprised to find I had started menstruating. Unprepared & Knowledgeable enough to know there were mountain lions, bear and other smaller critters I decided to go home. Unfortunately, my flashlight was dead and with the dense fog and the dim light I was unable to find a trail to my location. I also knew I probably wouldn’t make it across that fallen tree in the dark, so I opted to stay until morning. My dog circled me all night long growling. So thankful for her. Needless to say I didn’t sleep. I hope this helps somebody.

There isn't really a need to use a cloth or gloves when picking stinging nettles it's just if you are too mushy..where I'm from it's even said it's healthy to be stung by stinging nettles

This video made me realize I’ve been a forager since I was a child. We’d be out playing get hungry and eat wild grapes, blackberries, crap apples (but just one or be sick) and walnuts….we knew all the spots they grew and today 50 years later I forage mushrooms. It’s reassuring knowing when whatever happens, happens, we can survive.
