I just started sewing in 2021, on a 20 year old Elna sewing machine. Within only 3 months, I knew I'd have to get a serger because I am drawn to all the soft knit fabrics. I bought the Brother 1034D and had it out of the box and threaded within 45 minutes of having it home! I absolutely LOVE it and it definitely makes it easier to sew seams on all the soft, stretchy fabrics I like to wear. I was so pleased with it that I ended up buying a Brother Coverstitch machine 2 months after getting this, to make more professional hems on tee shirts and skirts. Great job with all your explanations!❤

thanks!! Super thorough video. I've been thinking about investing in a serger...I'm pretty bad at finishing seams with my regular machine lol french seams are fine but I'm also thinking about sewing swimwear for my daughter and a serger sounds much better to do just that. And this video kind of reinforces that maybe I should get one😅

Thank you; very informative. I was just gifted a used 1034D and have never used it. The person that gave me the surger said something minor was wrong with it, so I have no idea what to do. I had to download the user manual and also I do know the thread tree is broken in half and needs replacing. I am an absolute beginner, so plan to follow your instructions.

Hi Courtney, thank you so much for your helpful, informative videos. I'm 63 and have been sewing off and on since I was a teenager. But never on a regular basis. Your videos are inspiring me to do more! I came across a barely used, Brother 1034d, for a steal and decided to go for it. Would you be able to go over which type of thread is best to use? It's an investment buying the large spools and a big difference in price between polyester thread or cotton thread. I know about using cotton thread with heat sensitive projects but for clothing would a polyester thread (cheaper) work with a cotton dress? Thx again for any help or advice!!!
@RooneySewingPatterns Жыл бұрын
Hi GiGi! How fun that you found a serger and went for it! It is an investment for the larger spools, thankfully they last so long! I use 100% polyester and use it on every type of fabric (cotton, linen, etc). It washes great and lasts!

This is helpful, but I just got a Brother 1034D and it looks like they have changed the threading order-- now it just goes from right to left. I followed your instructions and got no looping ... followed the order in the manual and it worked. So, just a caution. Thanks for the confidence-building tho!
