Throwing in techniques is definitely a great idea. I try a lot of ideas that I see that I was never really taught. I’m sure there are things I think I’m doing right but there’s probably a better or easier way.

Good video, Tim. I think adding beginner basics aside from builds, like finishing, ups your game. Actually, you also did a basic tool introduction with the pull saw too. Two basic builds, a simple tool intro, and basic finishing makes a pretty well rounded format.

Would love to see sections on different finishes and hand tool tips, like sharpening chisels and plane irons that sort of thing. Joinery tips would also be great, too. Look forward to the next one.

Speaking of glue bottle shenanigans, I now use one of those mayo squeeze bottles that is designed to sit upside down. It's PERFECT, glue always by the exit point where you need it, no dried glue issues. Easy squeezy!

I use cabinet shelf liners from the Dollar Store under the material I'm sanding to keep it from vibrating and scratching while sanding and to quieten the vibration noise.

Definitely I see the difference between using the pre stain conditioner versus not. Now I now why my project would not come out looking as good when I would stain them thank you for that great tip. Going to ran down to my local woodcrafter store and buy some of the product that you had mentioned on your video. Awesome

Being a dare devil with your shirt .😂 .. my wife gave up on me with my white shirts. I have difficulty trying to figure out stains, clear coats finishing.. this helps me a lot. One or two builds sounds great. If that means we get to learn more about woodworking, like today, regarding properly finishing with stains. Ty again for diy projects, and like you said, we need to make these builds our own

On the Christmas Tree, the 2 bottom sides could have the top angle cut different to hold a shelf giving the tree 2 shelfs for smaller decorations.

I use a Varathane pre-stain conditioner and the difference is enormous. 100% worth the effort.

Thanks for the video. I worked in IT for 30+ years. I made many laptop/monitor risers very similar to this. Yours was much nicer than most of mine. I am also looking for some quick and easy Xmas projects. Think I will be making a few of these trees.

Another nice job, Tim. You have convinced me to try gel stain. I have read mixed reviews on gel stain, but I like the way it went on. Also, two builds and a technique lesson sounds like a great video format.

I do 120 and 220 on pine. After the first coat of stain dries, I go over it with 320 then stain again.

I don’t know if this counts for make it your own but I recently made a monitor stand for my daughters home office using all pallet wood. I made the nail holes a feature by filling them with a darker wood filler and using only a shellac finish to keep it light colored. I used walnut dowels to fasten the top to the side boards. Everything was glued together. So far so good.

I love the idea of more info. Especially around finishing. I’ve seen some people thin out paint or stain and would love a good info on that or if you have a power sprayer info there as well. But all in all love the channel!

Finishing is so important and there are a ton of different ways to get a quality finish. I thin paint to give a different look but I've never thinned stain, Might look into it and see if there's a benefit . Thanks for the comment and the support 🤟🏼

I've been wanting to use more dowels lately, mostly for the aesthetics. I like the look of contrasting dowels plugs. Problem is that all the dark woof dowels I've found are SO expensive. Help us, master! Find us a source of truly affordable dowel plug in various beautiful wood tones!

Try one of these... if you're wanting to cut the occasional dowel from walnut or something even more exotic (I use Purple Heart occasionally) this works great. Rip small pieces and run through here and you're good to go🤟🏼 amzn.to/403v3ki

Usually wood filler when I'm going to stain and spackle or caulk is enough if I'm painting. Just make sure you sand those spots again after it dries

I don't know why it is but your subscriber base should be MUCH larger, like 10 to 20x larger and growing. Aside from word of mouth here, there has to be a way to increase your presence. I haven't checked but if you don't already, start doing a bunch of shorts. I created one short where I let my son take a sledge hammer to my Roybi wifi garage door opener that had been a pita since I bought it and it gained just under a 1000 views in less than 24 hours. Those shorts get more eyes on you and hopefully more subs! I was only offering some satisfaction to fellow owners lol where you're actually teaching skills. All I can say is keep up the great work and hopefully before long your numbers will reflect all that you're giving to us.👍🇺🇸
