Many thanks for this series - you have paced it just right and have made it easy to follow, certainly easier than many other guides I have watched in my attempt to move from 2D LibreCAD to OnShape. Looking forward to seeing your other guides.

These lessons were very helpful. I was able to create a stepdown gear by watching these. The gear worked in a paper shredder! I was amazed and excited to create more. I have found my local library has a 3D printer that can be used free of charge. Great way to spend some retired winter days. Thanks so much.

Thank you. I typically jump in to most apps and pick up on them pretty quickly. Such as the Adobe suite, illustrator, photoshop. I had a very hard time making since of anything at first. But you took that all away and I became comfortable really quick. Excellent video. I've wanted to learn cad forever but it was so very difficult before. I really appreciate Onshape for free version to get started.

This series was great. I know other CAD/modelling programs. But those are typically expensive and on my work computer. I was looking for a Cloud-based program I can use from home. I am excited to start learning On-Shape and your video did a great job of giving a quick run down on how to start drawing.

I'm learning by pausing the instructional then repeating the steps on my platform and then returning to the instructional. I suggest that, when the instructor clicks on an icon or the desktop or anywhere for that matter, that we are told on what is being clicked before continuing with the points to be discussed. That will make the learning process much clearer and shorten the length of time required by avoiding constant pausing to replay what has just been done. Now, I'm really anxious to put this software to educational use.

These beginner videos have been great for me as a school teacher to get to grips with the basics for my students. But my students have Special Educational Needs and some have struggled to follow the videos. Do you have other resources for students like mine (perhaps shorter bite-sized tutorials, or videos with simpler language)?

I don’t mind the public aspect of the free version. Unlikely anything I do for a long time will be useful. However, my friend says he wants to invest in a metal capable 3D printer and wants me involved. He’s the mechanical engineer, me the electrical engineer so I’m a bit puzzled. We’re both in our 70’s, so it keeps the brain alive.

i have been planning to build a custom bike for myself (DIY), from a bike that i already have. so a website suggested Onshape for doing a pre-sketch of what i want. so can you please suggest how to or from were to start drawing, like from the chassis itself to whole bike or just the outline the surface to see how it will look after the build..!?
@CADSessions
@CADSessions 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Nidheesh, There are various approaches to that one. It also depends on how much of it you're actually doing yourself. Are you going to be fabricating the parts yourself or outsourcing some things? Onshape would be good for making sure critical components fit together correctly, or if you're outsourcing parts then to communicate your design intent and correct dimensions to the machine shop / fab shop. But if you're welding yourself, you don't really need to work from CAD., because you can build to fit. If looks are really important, then generally one one would start with a concept drawing, and add detail and specifics afterward. If you're modifying a bike you already have, creating a CAD model for the bike would be an excellent exercise, after which you could start adding / modifying parts. Just don't get bogged down in unnecessary details, like detailing the contours of the handle bar grip, etc. Hope this helps.
