I will be watching this again. I have struggled with water control for so long.

Inspired by your feedback on the previous tutorial, I made one about the 3 biggest watercolor mistakes I used to make - things I wish I knew when I first started working with the medium. One may be obvious to You, another may surprise You { and one I still struggle with }. Hope you find this helpful! 🙂

Have a 2" x 12" watercolour paper strip clipped to the side of current painting. (cut up old failed painting backs) when I wet a piece on my painting I also wet 2-3 tiny areas on my test strip. Then test the paint first on the test area, to see if I need to wait a little longer, i also test color strength there.Hopefully one day I will know when it's time, still learning.

Oh my gosh I ignored this video at first because it's always the same thing. Every time someone covers mistakes with watercolor it's always blooms and muddy colors and paper qualities. But your video surprised me! Thank you for this!!!

Like Shirley Trevena, a renowned British artist who has a particular, immediately identifiable style and who has been a big influence on me (she breaks all the "rules"), I love watercolour blooms and actively encourage them. I hadn't noticed that they only occur with granulating paints.

Thank you, so much! It really helps to understand how to avoid mishaps and how to use shadows and light. I recently started trying my hand at watercolor, and as a previous oil and calligraphy artist, your attention to detail and your style of instruction is incredible, and makes for a pleasurable learning journey. Many thanks.

The magenta migrating into the blue at 1:46 gives a very interesting "tree like" effect. Might be good starting point for trees or other interesting things.

I love ultramarine blue violet from QoR. I used it as “white” for my iris painting 😄 it does granulate but I see it only in big washes. In the iris I painted it’s smooth or the granulation is not that obvious. I actually use it now in almost all my paintings. But I agree, granulating pigments have to be used where needed, they hardly ever have a place in botanical art.

I am so glad it was helpful! It’s ok to put the paint away and restart when you feel up to it, and maybe with different type of medium / paper. It took me 3 attempts until I got serious about Watercolor in my 30s - with long breaks in between 💜 enjoy the process 😊
