Mell, I enjoy your collaborations so much. I have super fine, high porosity, thick, short wavy hair so I would love to see a someone with hair like mine. It seems all of the hair videos are with long hair which is easier to style than short (above the shoulders) hair. Or at least that's the case when I had longer hair vs short hair. Unfortunately, since my hair is so fine it doesn't look thick..ugh. I've also noticed every hair video is dealing with dry hair or ends. My hair is healthy and not dry so creams and leave-ins are usually too heavy causing my waves to straighten. But I need a leave-in to keep it healthy. I prefer healthy hair over nice looking hair but to have both would be nice too. Please, pretty please with a 🍒 on top do a collab with someone with similar hair to mine! 😘

@Cassandra Bankson When you said “Rat’s Nest” my eyes teared up. I am probably more than twice your age, and as a kid in the 60’s I was repeatedly told my hair looked like a “rat’s nest” and if I would just brush it or wash it more it would smooth & straighten out. I thought that phrase had died out with the invention of blow dryers & styling cream & big 80’s hair. I’m sorry you had to hear it as a kid. Of course your beautiful smile & infectious laugh tells me you have long since gotten over it! I’ve been watching Mel almost since the beginning and I have shown her to every stylist that has touched my hair for years. She helped me love my hair, and I really hope the two of you will do a video update so we can see how your hair is doing & what Mel suggests as your hair gets used to this new routine.

Yes! I've been dealing with it for years and actually figuring out how to manage it without a topical steroid is part of my journey of discovering I actually have wavy/curly hair lol I've never used VERB products before, but if anyone is looking for a cheaper option, I cleanse my scalp with a concoction using Dr. Broner's tea tree oil castile soap and then apply aloe to my scalp and hair while it's still soaking wet. And every night I dampen my scalp and hair and apply more aloe until I need to wash. To help with irritation I add two drops of peppermint oil and a few drops of rosemary and a couple drops of lavender to kind of balance out the scent. The oils can be expensive, but I find they last a long time, so I can plan to buy them beforehand.

@@lauralvw8445 Yes, wavy hair is not an insult! Just another kind of beautiful. There are some wonderful advantages to this type of hair too. Since watching Mel’s scalp care video a long time ago, I do not have issues with my seborrheic dermatitis any more. I searched online for years (like 10 years) and tried so many things some even made it worse. Dermatologist visits with not much change. What I’ve learned from Mel has worked: never sleep with wet hair. Use a clarifying shampoo, nyasol shampoo sometimes, and always diffuse until my scalp is dry, exfoliate with a treatment or even a brush in the shower with conditioned hair. And most of all curly girl method ain’t the best for everybody….and definitely not for a scalp with seborrheic dermatitis!!!

This is the best collab I’ve ever watched! I’m so glad I searched for wavy hair gel in the search bar and this came up as the second result. I got told by many hairdressers over the years that because my hair was wavy it would always be frizzy and not once did I have a hairdresser tell me how to look after my waves so I brushed my hair multiple times a day, blow dried it and straightened it often because I hated the fluffiness and the waves never sitting nicely. Then I started doing the wavy girl method about 9-10 months ago but wasn’t having much luck at first until I got a curly cut done by my local hairdresser who happens to be a curly specialist. I was just using a curl cream from the supermarket until that point. Afterwards I got a better quality curl cream (Moroccanoil curl Definer) and Moroccanoil Curl defining mousse but didn’t try the mousse until a few weeks ago. Had been struggling to do refreshes with the mousse as I find I end up a sticky oily mess the next day so put my big girl pants on and brought a gel. Today is the first time I’ve done my full routine with a gel and I’m hoping the results are better 😊.

This was really fun to watch and so informative! Cassandra’s level of knowledge at the beginning of the video is about where I’m at now (just started researching curly hair yesterday) so it’s perfect timing 😊 You gave a lot of advice that I’m excited to try out!

I love the conversation about scalp conditions. I also didn’t have family to teach me about my hair, and ALSO have a scalp condition called dissecting cellulitis. Because of it, I have to shampoo more often than most curlies say to. I appreciate the honesty of having a scalp condition because I also have been self-conscious about the appearance of my scalp, being red, bleeding, dry, and even some thinning of hair. Oy vay!

This was crazy helpful, even for someone like me, with only slightly wavy hair, who just wants to learn how to let it air dry without looking like a crazy person. (I cannot use a diffuser for the life of me. Everything gets frizzy. I don't know.) Just the little tips you included like wetting the brush to tame some frizz, SECTIONING HAIR when you try to use a brush to "ribbon" the hair... I'm just astounded by what I learned, just as a casual viewer. Also, I appreciate that you're Canadian, because I rarely find products recommended by Americans... I'd love a video on some cheap wavy hair products! You're such a fantastic teacher, so patient and thorough!

I loooved this video! Watching someone new to the process walk through the steps was wildly informative, and gave me some ideas of what products I could add to my routine or replace my current ones with! Thank you again for helping us wavies!

I'm fan-girl geeking out right now. I love watching both of you and learning so much from each of you. But to have you do a colab is blowing my mind. Also, Cassandra, I know you are vegan... but my skin- A-L-L OF IT- cleared up so much when I did an elimination diet to identify foods that my body doesn't like. And then stopped ingesting those things. Gurl. My face, my back, my cleavage, my scalp- the cysts only happen like maybe once a year. And the scalp cheese- gone. You two are amazing. Keep being awesome and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

Over the last year, I developed a scalp condition (nobody knows what it is still medically woohoo), but I had to stop blow drying my super thin, super fine hair and air-dry instead. All of a sudden I now have waves with no product. They don't last long because my hair is so fine and fly-away damaged. I am sure I would start get somewhere in the 2a-2c range if I could style my hair properly. Unfortunately, I seem to have an immune reaction to most styling products (my face gets oily and my eyes tear continuously). If I could find a product that I could use in my hair, I would love to try this routine and embrace my new waves. I love how instructive and informative Mel was! There are a lot of women who are discovering waves or curls in their hair as they age (probably due to hormonal changes), and others have been really rude about "gatekeeping waves/curls." (lol why?!) I am going to keep this video for reference so I can try when I find a product that works!

Mell, I think this is your best video because you are walking Cassandra through the process with split screen and providing products for her hair type and beach lifestyle in the sun and water. Doing videos like this with people in different climates and weather conditions is informative. Thank you. Good Job!

this is the first video i have ever seen from this channel and i immediately subscribed to both accounts cause y’all have amazing energies and thank u mel for all the tips for wavy hair cause i feel like it’s hard to find tips on low prosity wavy hair and there’s not a lot of proctucts that are water based and meant for fine wavy hair so i’m definitely purchasing the products u recommended
