Hi Paul, quick question friend. I am removing a protrusion (5' tall x 2' wide) with HEAVY texture on it and patching the space between. How would you go about hiding the new drywall and old heavy textured drywall seam so there isn't a big fat lump due to the heavy texture on one side? A cake batter mixer works great if you can find one

From experience, If you have a 2 speed drill, any mixer that can fit in the chuck and operated at the lower speed can work. Start mixing shallow in the bucket and work your way deeper. Set the drill clutch to limit max torque if possible. Don't over speed and you'll be fine. The drill will get warm but I've never smoked one doing this and have mixed thinset, concrete and repair mortar/cement this way too. No need for excess science here, just go for it..

@@GannDolph I'll tell you how I do it and my boss who taught me back in 1991. He told me to take the paddle and go ahead and push it into the mud up and down all around turn it and do it again before you ever touch the power button on your drill. The mud is fairly mixed somewhat. That way you don't burn up your drill motor. I have a half inch Dewalt drill that has lasted me over 15 years and is still mixing mud because of the method that I just explained. Happy finishing that sheet rock that the normal carpenter can't.
