Almost 4 months into MT and this is just the video I was looking for. My coach gave me the OK for playful/light sparring. Got my shin/mouth guards but have been nervous to give it a go. Thanks!

don't be nervous, if u communicate that you're going light and are new, most people will be very nice to you. if you feel pressure and afraid remember that you can always use the teep to keep mofos away and also incorporate feints, you'd be surprised how many people don't use these two and also don't know how to deal with them early on.

I had my first sparring this morning after 4 months training Muay Thai. I was very happy with my foot work but my guard was bad 😁. So now I know what to work on. Thanks for the video

You weren't kidding when you said new, uploaded an hour ago. Thanks! I'm considering Muay Thai training, as I mentioned previously, I'm 42 years old, been bed ridden for the past 7 years and after years of physical therapy I'm finally able to attend a dojo. I'm a 1 stripe white belt and now I want to see how much further along I can go. First is strength conditioning, then speed and confidence. I was wondering about fighter only gyms vs just training. And recently I did ask Sensei if I'm going to hard for feedback. He says I'm too critical on myself and if I am hurting my partners they would let me know. Got my 16oz Gloves, shin guards and head gear, it's exhausting. The last thing on my mind though is I'm too old for this shit, but then again, I'm hoping to work up to getting in the ring just once before I really am too old. Now that I got srarted, I can't stop. Good video!

I am almost 1.5 months into training. You’re not too old at all and I am inspired by your comment.

I went to one class and to my surprise we did some light sparring halfway through. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing but I explained to the coach and my sparring partners that it was my first time ever and they went pretty easy. The problem was that I am fit and athletic, but never sparred. I don’t know where to punch or kick, and I didn’t want to kick them too hard or in a bad spot and then either hurt them or make them mad enough to kick my ass haha.

@@metalface_villain Yeah they did the same thing to me as well recently. It was me and another really new person, so I mainly just Jabed and crossed the persons gloves. They got one good hook on my shoulder and just started apologizing lol.

Was my first class and the coach put me into sparing and I noticed that he didn't really tell me the right way to do certain stuff. I have found a second place that does just Muay thai and I'm going to give them a try

@@CombatCultureUSA Breaking down thestep of the switch kick abit more. Does the feet move at the same time or one just after the other? Maybe shoot a couple of switch kicks in slow motion. As a tall person I have a hard tim to get off my teep against shorter pressure fighters because the close the distance and smother me so I cant get of teeps. Any chance of you making videos on any of those?

This is very informative! Thanks! Only 4 months in but I truly enjoy Muay Thai. Also, the part where the gloves flew off made me laugh too hard. Keep up the great content. #artofeightlimbs

when i first started muay thai one of the first sessions i attended was in a sparring day, it was also a mixed class with advanced people. thank fuck i had seen a million youtube videos and did well enough. the crazy mofos would also rock 12 and 10 ounce gloves and i didn't even have a headgear at the time xD some of those fools would try spinning fists too. for me that type of learning was ok, i kinda liked the pressure and being scared af and fighting against better people and when others went hard it made it easier for me to go hard too cuz for some reason i can't find it in me to hurt others but for others this might not be a good method of learning so you should definitely follow this video's advice and take it chill, go to the proper classes or not even spar until you feel really ready

I had my sparring sessions twice now and for some reason I'm always out of breath lol. I thought my cardio was good enough. I guess not. Also have to work on defense. I always get caught when trying to throw something.

ur cardio is prob ok, u just gass out because of the nerves, it will go away once u get used to it. you will probably also experience the same problem once people start clinching u cuz it will be a new element and it uses a different stamina type :D

1:52 I have 10oz gloves, does that work?
@metalface_villain
@metalface_villain 11 ай бұрын
that's good for hitting pads and the bag but a little inconsidered towards your partners. 14 is the minimum imo and 16 is preferred, it's also good conditioning for your shoulder stamina. as a beginner i went against an experienced dude with 10oz and got hit on the nose, it didn't break or anything but it for sure hurt for more than a week xD

@@TheFloridaMuscle i don't know if i agree with the not sparring after two months but if people there don't go light on newbies then it's def a dogshit gym.
