Great thorough video! I'm still working on getting up a good cylinder at all, but I can easily follow along with all of the steps here, and appreciate that you repeated the really important stuff like not being afraid to measure and not putting a sticky lid on a sticky pot! In my pottery class, my teacher substituted a set of disposable chopsticks connected at a 90 degree angle with a rubber band. The vertical chopstick goes inside the pot, just almost touching the bottom, and then you adjust the horizontal chopstick to be right at the height of the lip. The horizontal chopstick also has a 2nd rubber band wrapped around it, which you then move right or left to indicate the diameter of your vessel's top. (I was trying to find a picture, but I guess it's not a common hack!) This is a cheap/easy way to measure without writing down a measurement, and like the calipers, isn't super subject to error; the rubber bands stay put!

The first thing I noticed was your badly wounded hand. I see in comments it's better now! I know how hard it is to throw and work in the mud when your hand is hurt. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, HAD TO PUT ON LAYERS OF BANDAGES AND WEAR A GLOVE TOO.

Psst circumference is the distance around the perimeter of the circle. Diameter is the distance across. But you were probably just testing us, eh? Love the lesson! I'm going to try out your method. How do you put a knob on without sinking in the lid?

It’s more accurate if you use two sets of callipers.firstly as you’ve shown internal measure the jar .use the second pair to make the external measurement of your lid,at the base where it meets what will be the grip area.this bottom section when turned up the right way is the width that you should be measuring, not the top.as long as it’s not any wider than the base it will always fit.sorry if this is a bit confusing ,and it means you have to buy a second set of callipers, hope it helps.

I for some reason always have trouble making lids, no matter how skilled I am (i'd say im about intermediate level) I think its a problem with me centering small pieces of clay.
