Thank you. You really clarified some issues for me I was having with my lidded jars. It did NOT look fun throwing with that too dry clay! Also lid 3 made me say wow!

Hey Mudgirl, I watched your Lidded Pots video from a couple of years ago and thought that would be a good project for the evening. I checked and had a 5lb pug of clay available which if I used it all would push my limits but I thought why not. The clay was a little hard so I wedged till it seemed uniform and softened up some then I started centering it. Now I can center a 1lb ball in just a few seconds, 2lb takes a bit longer and 3lb takes a bit of work but this 5lb just wasn't cooperating. After many minutes of trying I had worked up a pretty good sweat and had taken off probably 2lb of slip before I said "Good enough". I then started to open up but the farther down I made the well the more wonky the clay became until eventually I broke through the bottom into a large air pocket. Not just a bubble mind you but what you would actually have to call a pocket. I cut the clay from the bat flipped it over and sure enough there was a golf ball sized hole in the bottom. I know this air was not in the clay to begin with and I made sure the bottom was rounded when I slapped it on the bat so now I am going to search your channel for videos on centering and maybe get an idea of where I went wrong and learn something new.
