I know this video is years old now, but if anyone is reading this in 2021-- I'd add the Atlas Top by Stitch Witch. That was my first-ever piece of clothing, made with less than 1yard of fabric, and it took me about 1.5 hours as a brand-new beginner. An easy wardrobe staple that doesn't look "homemade" in a bad way; it looks fresh and trendy. It's also great if you're used to sewing but never made clothing before, because it's a rare item that actually works well with quilter's cotton, so if you have a stash of quilters cotton and don't want to shell out for fancy new fabric when you're just learning to make clothes, this is perfect.

I like your recommendations! I would also recommend Pants No.1, and Shirt No.1 by 100ActsofSewing . These are both great for beginners. They are very simple and made for woven fabrics. The style is cute and accessible for lots of body types. (Inclusive sizing) Happy sewing!

As a beginner I have a hard time deciding which pattern to purchase because they seem so similar examples: indigo, Dudley by Megan N, hope by style arc do you have any tips on deciding?

Go with the instructions you prefer - I love recommending Tilly's patterns as the step by steps are all photographs instead of diagrams! x

the ogden cami in particular is a pattern i've been wanting to try, but unfortunately i can't grade it up to fit me! that's a problem i find with a lot of common beginner patterns - the sizing is just not very inclusive. i do appreciate these videos, though; it helps me get a sense of what kinds of garments to look for when thinking about drafting my own patterns.
