Singers need this, too much focus on advanced technique and "power" always by methods, Because its easy to teach.

Awesome! Thanks so much for all the advice you've posted so far. I'm currently taking singing lessons, and this is such a great addition to everything i've learned this year. Also to refresh my memory when i feel like i'm 'stuck'.

My worship leader at church wants me to improvise during the worship songs where the other vocalists are holding the chord. I don't want to, mostly because I don't know how, also because I don't want to move notes when no one else is, and I just really don't want to. All four of us are also playing instruments. I'm playing bass guitar while singing harmony, which I love. I hate singing alone. I hate singing melody. I love harmonizing. Is there a way I can learn to be agreeable to learning this improv skill, or should I just say no or leave the group altogether? I enjoyed singing a descant along with you while you were singing and playing in this video, but I have no interest in singing alone. I hate my voice, even though others seem to like it. I love singing in trios and quartets, but never the lead part, and never, ever solo parts.

Arpeggiate 7th 9th and 13th chords instead and incorporate swing rhythm, sing the 4th note of the major scale Fa much less than the other notes. Start with the 2 5 1 chord progression, the core of jazz.
