Espen, The Golden Son Beekeeper, took a road trip to meet with a beekeeper friend of mine. He has been preparing a couple of Nuc hives for us to start our season with. Alvin, the beekeeper, was so full of information! We spent over three hours in his Apiary learning as much as we could. This video was edited down to about twenty minutes and was mostly focused on those things that Espen would need to know for installing his Nuc the next day.
The next Golden Son Beekeeping episode will be of Espen installing his Nuc all on his own. I, Daddykirbs, will take the roll of camera guy :)

oakland002 I had an hour of video! LOL I'll post more of it later. This episode was focused on the installation of the nuc. He showed us a "super hive" and also talked us through inspecting a weaker hive.

I know this is one of your much older videos but is there any way you would be willing to pass on contact info for your friend Alvin? I’m in dallas and would love to have a resource like him to learn from and get some nucs myself to get up and running. If not, I understand. Just came across your channel a few days ago and have been watching and learning a LOT. It’s been great just to watch you do things in the hives, it’s like being literally right there next to you while you work. Thank you for posting these videos.

how many hives per acre should there be?? how far does a bee travel from the hive to get the pollen? to profit $1,000, how many hives would I need with average production?? how many hives can a person service total? i.e. one man, 500 hives! whats the ratio? thanks!
@daddykirbs
@daddykirbs 9 жыл бұрын
+TODD FISCHER Wow, I wish I knew all those answers. The Golden Son Beekeeper and I are still early on our journey. In Texas, for an AG exemption, you need a minimum of 5 hives on 5 acres. I know there are beekeepers that keep well over 100 hives on their own. I have no experience managing more than 3 right now. There is a local beekeeper that has 170+ and I have a friend that keeps about 40. I'm not even going to try to answer the question about making money. There is a lot of investment of time and money up front so it would take a while to be able to make that back. You have to expect some loss.

thank you very much for this video. next month i will start to construct my own hive boxes and in spring will aim to start of with 10 colonies. i am fortunate enough to know a beekeeper to help me out but there is a language barrier. So this is really helping me get a head start. i'll be sure to watch the next episodes as well.

@daddykirbs
@daddykirbs 9 жыл бұрын
Nathan Deneault Talk to your supplier. Ask lots of questions. Find a couple good sources local and online for information. Don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed by the hundreds of possible ways to do this. Keep it simple. Don't be afraid to fail. ... how's that? :) Good luck buddy.

Hey thanks my man! I got them, they are installed into the beginner hive :) Just a deep right now, I did put the inner cover on just to make sure I could get the Tele cover off. So tiny, compared to what you would think they would be, only had 1 going at my hood.. wasn't happy, did it with jacket, hood, and gloves in shorts, no problem, most of the girls just wanted to work and didn't mind the transfer.

Nathan Deneault Was it a 5 frame nuc installed in a 10 frame deep box? Good plan putting the inner cover on. What breed did you get?
@nathandeneault5778
@nathandeneault5778 9 жыл бұрын
Italians :) and I was hoping it would not be too hot. You know something Blake? It is SO DARN COOL to have bees.. it is a neat feeling :) Yes it was a 5 frame going into a 10 frame deep. I didn't put another level on it, waiting for them to fill it out. I am going to go get some organic sugar and feed em, the breeders said that they will go into build out mode if you do, if you don't will take longer for them to get going. I don't plan on harvesting honey this year, since I got a late start with them, plan on getting another one soon also. I wanted 2 to bee-gin with :D lol I will have to show you what I am up to when I get things a bit more completed.
