You covered some distance quick! 👍. You should consider a little fishing upgrade, a small 5” chugger with a skirt will attract MAHI (leaves a little bubble trail in the water when trolled).

Yeah I was rippin! I have some of those skirted lures with the clear heads that make the bubbles. I’ve tried every color and only caught barracudas. They have wire leaders though… would you recommend switching for a mono leader? I’ve had good luck with the cedar plug but only in heavier conditions

@@SailinWithTrout If you can sail near the weedlines when crossing to and from Bahamas you’ll catch Mahi. They congregate around any floating debris. Yes, I’d definitely recommend switching to Mono or even Flourocarbon leader. Blue/white colors are good too. How far north are you coming?

Ah thanks for the tips! Going at least to Oriental NC but potentially as far as Maine. Basically just trying to find some work to fix up Nonamé and build up the cruising kitty. It’d be nice to work for a few weeks then hop further; work, hop, work, hop

@spinfish1434 it’s on my list of potential stops! At the very least I want to come through for the boat show before heading back to the Caribbean!

Trout, I have recently purchased a sailboat. I am not a rich man, so my question is simple. On average, how much does it cost for you to sail per month / per year? I'm trying to figure the budget for sailing. Thanks
@SailinWithTrout5 ай бұрын
It really depends on where you are and how you’re living. Last year I spent barely any money in the Bahamas (about $400) but that’s all I had. This year I had a little more and still blew it all 😂 It costs me more to sit in one spot than to keep moving. When there’s friends around it’s easy to get sucked into restaurants/bars/excursions etc. when you’re on an island in the middle of no where or at sea there’s no where to spend money. I probably average around $500 a month while cruising, maybe a little less. This trip up the ICW is costing more (diesel, beer, etc) Basically when I have money I spend it, and when I don’t I keep on going but have to cut out a lot of expenditures and miss opportunities. For instance I’m in St Augustine now but just about out of money so I can’t explore the town really, just waiting on weather to keep going north (to find work)
