The BCY_X have 18 strands to compensate for the thickness, cause the material is thinner than the D97 material. Bow is 49,7 pounds at 28 inches and the arrow used for the speed testing is 506 grains. So about 10 GPP! The arrows I´m shooting is my hunting arrows, which weighs 580 grains. Thanks for watching.

BCY-X is a blend of dyneema and vectran. The vectran is added to compound strings to prevent any creep but is pretty much useless for recurve/longbows and most manufacturers don't like it as it puts unnecessary stress on the limbs.

Hi, Peter. Thanks VERY much for this test! (Somehow I missed it when you first posted the video.) I think the results are both surprising and interesting. They made me glad that I chose a 14-strand D97 string for my 45-lb. take-down recurve! All the best, Chris (in Maine, USA)

I used BCY-X , 652 , 8125 and Force-10 materials. There is no significant difference in their performance. BCY-X is a stable material, but it stresses the hooking point of the string, which may break it. However, the arrow bounces off it faster, which can improve accuracy. 652 the original FastFligt. Stable, quiet, gentle and really fast. Perfect for all bows where the string attachment point is not wood or horn. Force 10 is a better material version of Dynaflight 97. It was probably the quietest and most stable. The shooting sensation is clear, the aftershock lasts a short time. 8125 is a common material among recurve archers. It's a little harder and noisier than the 652, but the performance is the same. I use a small nock and a 0.018" serving. For the same diameter (2.45mm) you need the following quantity. BCY-X : 20 thread , 652 and 8125: 16 , Force10 and D97 :14.

I was the one that asked you to try d97. I like this material as a more inexpensive bowstring material with great performance .. I did also hear bcy x with Vectrin adds stress on Trad bows.. I shot a couple of whitetail deer with d97 and found the strings quiet. The deer never knew what hit them.. Both deer fell over not anymore than 50 yards!!!!

Very informative! I'd be curious to see the results with a thinner BCY X string, such as a 14 or 16 strands! I'm also curious as to the effect of furballs or other string silencing devices would have. My guess would be that heavier ones, such as "spider legs" would silence it more but also slow the string more than lighter ones, such as fur or yarn, until surface area becomes too much.
@Kurtdog63 Жыл бұрын
I think stiffer strings can be harder on bow limbs and possibly a little louder sound. Also older bows not rated for fast flight strings. 10 fps is not a huge difference. Shot groups are over-rated and destructive to arrows, ha. I get 154 fps with Dacron out of a 45 lbs Bear Super Kodiak and 500 gr arrow. I just posted a video this week testing light recurve, longbow, and compound speeds. 25 to 45 lbs. Chronographs are fun to play with. I like your bow shooting machine.

Thanks for this Peter, I never knew what the differences were between fastflight and D97 (and BCY-X). Not much! I compared a dacron and fastflight string in a chrono a few years ago just shooting, and I think the dacron string was giving about 8-10fps slower (45lb bow, and 440grain arrows), so your results confirm what I found.

D97 dyneema,, 652 spectra..both are good, but i prefer 652 ff spectra..if they saying any dyneema material like 8125, dyna are low creep, spectra also low creep, the strands more thin than dyneema, spectra a bit soft characteristic, lower vibration, more forgiving..

Hi Peter! Thanks for nice video. One year ago I bought cheap Chinese bowstring material just to learn myself to do flemish bowstring. I made one with 12 strand to my 50# recurve. I tuned and cut my arrows to the bow. (400 spine, 100gr insert and 125 field points.) Everything was fine until i recently bought new bowstring material. Dynagen which is European made Dynaflight. I made 16 strand string just to make the bow little quiter. I was SO disappointed! Bow was quiter but SO slower! Arrows became to be too stiff. I cut 2 strand from the string (14 strand now) and it's little better but still too stiff arrows. I put 150 istället 125 in front but still too stiff. I don't have 200 grain or heavier points to see how much I have to put in the front just to kompensate the speed of the string. My point is that it seems that number of strands is even more important than the material (maybe) or the cheep Chinese material (3 spool for 100 SEK. which is like 30 dollars) was pretty good. What is your thoughts about it? Hälsningar från Sverige!
@peterjuulsgaard2 жыл бұрын
I dont think China stuff is always bad. I dont know the european string you are mentioning. It almost sounds like Dacron. I never made my own strings and the speed numbers I get in this video would be difficult to beat with any other string On my bow I believe. I mean 3 different types so close to each other, right? Strands should not make much of a difference with the same material. Some folks have already tested that. So I honestly think that your european string is poor. Wish you the best, Thanks for watching
@filipbertilsson22402 жыл бұрын
@@peterjuulsgaard Thank you for fast answer! Strange thing is that the European material is supposed to be good. It is made from the Dyneema SK 75 exactly as D 97. The same thing happened to me but opposite way. I changed original 16 strand (fet one) Dynaflight for 12 strand from the European stuff, just becouse i like to make a strings and I didn't think that I need 16 strand on 37# bow and the bow with 12 strand become to be so fast that my arrows become to be so week that I couldn't use them. Well, that is my experience. I'm sending the side with the European made string material if you want to check it! factory.flexarchery.com/compoundFullcustom.aspx Thank you and all best! Filip

Good stuff Peter!I do always enjoy watching your videos,very well made and straight forward info plus good chilling music in backround never hurts a thing!-i just would like to (share)say that I ve tried diff strings and have settled down on BCY strings(8-10 strands)from SBD .you might would like to check them out.-if you re concern about nock fit here s a little trick how to adjust them;due to the small diameter just do some wraps on actual serving where the arrow is going to sit with an unwaxed dental floss.once you get the diameter to your desired arrow nock groove thickness just run a superglue over it.then you do your nock points and voala it's all good to go&it lasts forever..of course you can still have them build to your desired diameter for that perfect nock fit.-now to use 8-10 strands instead of 18 would give you a complete different(animal) results.i guess more energy to the arrow and even less after shot vibration would be an understatement.i thought you might find it interesting ,and worth to explore perhaps.so I thought I would share ..anywayYou have a nice day ,all the best, regards Gab

Thanks for the video peter! I switched from a fast flight to a b-55 string a couple a months ago because I think it it quieter. The difference in speed didn't seem to be much but I don't have a chronograph. Maybe I should thin about switching back I'm not sure. Another thing I noticed is with the same form and same brace height the b-55 seems to have far more string slap on my arm Have you noticed that? I wonder if it because it is a softer string?
@peterjuulsgaard2 жыл бұрын
If the B55 shoots fine stay with it! But if you have issues you can change. Speed is not everything. The B55 will vibrate more at the end, and can possible slap your arm.

Perhaps have the chronograph further away from the bow, reason being, the arrows will be flexing a lot so close to leaving the shelf, reading the speed a few metres out the arrow speed might show a difference once the arrows have overcome all the flexing after the archers paradigm, just an idea, I would expect the fast flite string to perform better than the other 2?
@peterjuulsgaard2 жыл бұрын
The cronograph is almost two meters from the bow. I’ve been shooting tru cronos for years, and I’ve never seen any difference with 3 or 4 meters. I’ve seen error i arrow runs sideways tru, though. My point on is the same with all the strings, and if there was a significant difrence, the point on wouldent be, right?

@@peterjuulsgaard I have no idea, but I just watched a clip from another archer that demonstrated arrows hitting a target at close range and they stick out from the target at random angles and penetration was minimal compared to arrows hitting target at say 15 yards and they penetrate deeper and the arrows stick straight out like they do when correctly tuned, but I guess velocity only drops the further from the bow and maximum velocity is immediately as the arrow leaves the string, it was just a random thought I had, sorry I don’t mean to confuse this issue lol

There is no doubt that the arrow launch is a factor. Especially when shot by a person. But with a “machine” 3 times in a row, with 3 different strings.
