Well... As a black metal fan, and Behemoth fan particularly I can say that Behemoth IS NOT strictly a black metal. Their early 90's stuff - yes, it's pretty cold trve kvlt shit. But now It's blackened death metal, but in the latest couple albums they adding more atmosphere and melody to their style. But overall they still pretty badass and I love them dearly.

Behemoth is blackened death metal they fuse both death metal and black metal. They aren't standard black metal. If you want standard black metal check out immortal, dark funeral, cradle of filth etc. Those are some good black metal bands.

As stated by another commenter Cradle isn’t inherently black metal. Although their earlier albums were much more black metal-ish, Cradle is typically just categorized under “extreme metal.” I’ve seen people refer to them as “blackened symphonic/ gothic metal” which I think suits them a lot more. Their sound is much more on par with bands like Carach Angren and Dimmu Borgir. I don’t mind Cradle but comparing their sound with bands like Immortal and Dark Funeral makes no sense imo. TLDR, they’re really just sort of their own thing.

One of the first, if not THE first band to be labelled "Blackened Death Metal". Behemoth are literally progenitors of an entire genre. They ride that line of catchy/brutal so good as well. Thankfully since " demigod" the production value of their albums/recordings went up and people started paying attention.

I'd like to recommend some bands you might like: - Iskald (Norwegian Black Metal, but no potato quality here) - Saille (Ritu in particular is such an amazing album, Haunter Of The Dark being a masterpiece! It's also about Cthulhu and we all know Cthulhu is T H I C C AF) - Dark Fortress (If sp00ky atmospheres are your thing, this is your band) - Dark Funeral (Haha, blastbeats go BRRR!) - Belphegor (Sick riffs, sick vocals, haha blastbeats go BRRR (2). 12/10 would recommend) - Dissection (self explanatory) - Panzerfaust (If you like Behemoth, this will likely be something you like)

His music is an amalgamation of Black Metal, Death/Doom, Classical and Folk music, but truly unlike anything else out there. Also, Kaleikr are a great Icelandic Black Metal band and Spectral Wound is a great Canadian Black Metal band you need to check out as well!

Behemoth is suck a great band, and Nergal shreds! (As much a great vocalist as great guitar player and soloist.) I love everything they did, even though they go back and forth with their Black Metal sound. My favorite album is Demigod, with Evangelion not far behind. It's from their more Blackened Death Metal sound, but I love it. So violent and unapologetic. But their most recent releases are still awesome. Cheers from France! 🍻 *Edit* I failed to mention that I saw them in 2012 soon after he beat Leukemia and it was insane. You could feel his will to live through his performance. A show I'll never forget.

To be fair, Venom and Bathory got me into Black Metal. Venom, since they coined the term *"Black Metal"* as well as the lyrical style and imagery with their album titled *"Black Metal"* , their music was a damb sight darker than what Thrash Metal was back then and is now as well, so it was easy to say that Venom is what I call *"Olde Black Metal"* . When I listened to Bathory, the sound was so raw and completely different to Venom's, and the shriek vocals were just something completely unheard of unlike screaming or growling vocals, so I could easily see that Bathory was responsible for coining the black metal sound thats used today, so that lands Bathory as what I like to call *"New Black Metal"* (yes its not so new now I know) with both of them (Venom and Bathory) being apart of the *"First Wave of Black Metal"* and because of these two, this paved way for the rest of the First Wave of Black Metal with bands like *"Burzum", "Celtic Frost", "Imperial Crystaline Entombment"* etc etc, All I can say is despite who coined what, the history of black metal is very great but dark.

Long time lurker, first ever comment on here. Nik, it's Probably been said before but if so... here it comes again. You should check out "Oh Father, Oh Satan, Oh Sun", "Barzabel", and "Blow your Trumpets, Gabriel" also by Behemoth and with Dimmu Borgir you should look into the Live versions of "Gateways" from Forces of the Northern light concert from Oslo, Norway and "Mourning Palace" from Wacken and that's just a couple of suggestions. There are of course more where that came from, but let's start with these ones and more suggestions will come in due time. 😈😈🤘🤘🇸🇪🇹🇩🇸🇪🇹🇩
