For me, its an ancient and powerful demonic entity who has returned from ages of imprisonment, perhaps targeting the family who's descendants imprisoned it or simply to get closer to its victims. It exile has come to an end, thanks to the nosy humans who dug it up and set it free without knowing the dark force that was trapped within. It will use the vessels to heal until it gains enough strength to return to its previous physical form or body. Just my interpretation 🖤🤘🔥
