I've been in county jail when I was just 17 and I can tell you that even inmates in for some serious things aren't usually bad people, when they were treated with respect they were often very kind to the guards and for the most part everyone got a long. Respect is the way to go.

I did 2 1/2 years corrections (prison) and it's a quick lesson you learn. If you wanna get an inmate to respect you, do it one on one. That or fight and hopefully you win. Lol

The first dude... he’s trying to assert himself and show that he can’t be messed with- which needs to be done. BUT he’s going about it in alllll the wrong ways. People won’t mess with you when they respect you. You’re not going to be respected when you go around treating people like trash just to seem tough. The thing about most prisoners? They have street smarts. They can spot a BSer from a mile away. They can see right through the facade. He lost their respect in a matter of seconds and he will never earn it back.

It's not as bad as tv makes it out to be. Most inmates just want to be left alone. Not all of them break rules. Most inmates will make sure a new inmate follows the rules in their area because it's a lot less hassle then having to be shook down all the time.

If you treat people with respect you'll find that inmates can be the nicest of people and actually capable of teaching lessons in morality. Respect and decency is the way to go, too many shows paint both the guards and the inmates in bad light when in reality they're just people who've made some mistakes or someone just doing their job.

I just finished watching videos of inmates saving guards from heart attacks, strokes, attacks from other inmates, and they all say they saved them bc they treated them like a person and for that they respected him. The first officer, yelling at them like they’re animals, I could definitely see inmates turning and looking the way if an emergency happened to him. He needs to learn to treat people with some respect and humanity

I’m glad they’re actively preserving the rights of the inmates at least. And going so far as to explain their rights rather than pussyfooting around them to make it a confusing situation.

Spent 12 years as a training SGT in a max security state prison. Training these rookies is a never ending job. It takes hard work and attention to details.

As a prison guard you NEED to have the respect of the prisoners whilst also making them know that you're in charge. That first guy really needs to realise that or he's gonna get jumped

Here's my two cents: I find these reality/prison shows. I also think that the cameras lead to drama and grandstanding by the inmates AND the corrections officers. Just my observation

I'm from NM and my uncle got locked up at this prison (PNM) for a little bit before he got transferred out, I'm glad he got transferred after seeing this show, I had no idea how bad it was in there.
