@Cherished131 there's actually an artist by the name of Loanne Hizo Ostlie, that alters barbies to be more multi cultural. she has barbies with locs, tiny fros and even some barbies that look bi racial. it's pretty amazing ps. maybe your barbies were hussies, but not my Christie.

@nancyismyname Thanks! Honestly, not that long! The barbie editing only took about an hour. I put it together over 3 days though. I ended up filming the "interview" 3 times because I didn't like how it originally turned out. The end result is completely different then I had planned but I love how it came together. glad you enjoyed it!

@tayfan2 thanks for such a wonderful comment/compliment. this was exactly my vision for this video. i only wanted it to half way be about nicki minaj. that's kind of what ropes you in and then i turn it around on you and make it about something else. for me, that's partly what makes this video so funny. i start in one direction and totally veer off. glad you understood where i was going!

hm, i never thought about it that way. honestly, this video isn't a diss to Nicki. I wanted to make a video about Barbie, as if she was upset that Nicki was outshining her that's all. I also wanted to touch on how warped our perception of beauty is based on a doll that has unattainable body measurements. while i'm not a fan of Nicki's music, like I said in this video, I can't knock her hustle. Clearly she's very hard working, which is very admirable

taking a nasty insult that's been used against me my entire life and turning it into a joke is not feeding into stereotypes or in any way insinuating that black people cannot be educated or well spoken. for you to interpret it that way clearly means that you don't know me or my work because i CONSISTENTLY speak out against stereotypes online and even on national television.

well that was the point! i'm not really a nicki fan, so i figured out a way to do a video about her without it really being about her. the video is really about Barbie and how sexualized she is. and children are idolizing an impossible standard because Barbie isn't real and has unattainable body dimensions.

well, this video is almost 2 years old and at the time, Nicki was a new artist that lots o people were talking about. I make videos based on things that are popular, so I made this. you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but you're right i didn't actually say anything negative about Nicki. you're allowed to like her characters, but personally, I'm not into her or her music. that's my opinon.

@716591 this video isn't bashing Nicki. it's more of a commentary on Barbie and how sexulized she is. but it seems a lot of people missed that. I just used Nicki as the tie in because she's current. I don't have any problem with Nicki Minaj. I'm not into her music but I think she's a funny personality and fun to impersonate. I've also "heckled" Britney Spears, Tyra Banks, Lindsay Lohan and Rhianna. That's what comics do :P

@nandansho yeeeah, except i have dreadlocks which is my natural hair texture. my hair isn't acid washed or straight. and speaking proper english doesn't mean i "want to be white". it means i had parents who stressed the importance of speaking properly and didn't let me use slang at home. i'm actually a very proud black woman which is why ignorant comment like yours don't have any real effect on me. but thanks for watching anyway!

this video is 2 years old. i would assume that if you're subscribed to my channel, then you know my work. and if one joke turns you off that much and you don't see the value in using humor to address serious topics then no, this isn't the channel for you. i've done videos about HIV testing, slut shaming, homophobia, racism and body image using humor and it's been very successful for me. nothing wrong with not having the same sense of humor. best to you!

@leebeegreen UGH. i hate the idea of makeup being marketed to young girls. walmart now has a line of makeup for "tweens" and it really bothers me. at age 10 the last thing you should be thinking about it putting on makeup to make yourself "feel pretty" or attract boys.

@716591 oh, and "I don't care" is relative. sure, I'm not into her music but as a comic, I try to make videos that are relevant and timely. one because it's challenging but also because relevant topics get more views and more attention. When this video was posted (almost a year ago) it got over 50k views in a week. A big part of that attention was because it's about a popular artist. As a comic it's kind of my "job" to stay informed about things that are popular so I can comment on them.

Everyone looks for different ways to enhance themselves and raise their self esteem and that's their business. There is something to be said for natural beauty, but I realize it isn't for everyone.
