Hi Cari! A great new direction for your vlog! Even though there are many YT vloggers who review the many places to eat your video was especially rewarding in sharing not only the tastiness of the food but also the history. It’s so true that the precious family owned restaurants have fallen on hard times. My wife and I visited Shiro’s on our honeymoon. Many of the other places we ate at during our honeymoon like KC Drive-in with their waffle dogs and peanut butter shakes are are gone. Loved the original food hall on the second floor of the old Shiokiya at Ala Moana. The mom and pop restaurants of Hawaii are the true backbone of local Grindz. So true that the openings of mainland chains like Olive Garden, 85 Degrees and most recently Paris Baguette is exciting but so are staples 😂like Jane’s Fountain and Sekiya! That’s why this video on Shiro’s Saimin Heaven was such a fantastic direction for your efforts! Great job and congrats to you!👏🤙🙂

Thank you for this comment! I am definitely thinking about doing more videos like this... overall a great way to help the community and learn something new about the small business here on island.

Mahalo for sharing. Shiro's brings back so much childhood memories. The original Seaman's platter was my favorite. 2 Mahi, 2 Shrimp, 2 Scallops & 2 Oyster tempura style 2 scoop rice & there famous spaghetti mac salad. 🔥🤙

Hi Cari, Thank you for the vlog! Shiro's!!!! Love that place. Lot of memories going there over the years. Gotta get back there when I come back home. Really cool that you got to go in the back to see how things are done. I didn't know it was that big in back.

Thank you, Cari and Uncle B for this super review. I learned a lot about Shiro’s, as I wasn’t aware that they do so much in-house! No wonder food is always consistent and delish. Our son and family relocated back to Hawaii and Shiro’s is one of their go-to eateries. Even our younger grandson loves it and has shifted from plain saimin, no toppings to the (still plain saimin) saimin and lumpia combo! I was shocked!

Long time business, local comfort food and GREAT family. I’ve been going there since the mid 80’s when I worked at a muffler shop back in high school. Whenever I fly home, I try to make at least one visit to enjoy their food and hospitality. A definite fixture on Oahu and hoping they continue to serve the people of HI for years to come. Thank you for recognizing this great eatery.

Used to be so much better. Still good, much, much better than jippy's, but just not as good as before. So much more expensive too.
@visioneer637 ай бұрын
I understand what you're saying but truly, it's not really the fault of the restaurant. Costs for everything like supplies to labor have skyrocketed, making it tough on the labor intensive businesses like restaurants.
