Thank god you showed Waikane Store and showed the chicken. I was visiting a couple years back and a local told me to get the chicken there so I did and saw Nirvana. I constantly tell people about this place and how good the chicken is so they can try it too. I had no words to explain how it tasted except for "It's like she took all the goodness in the world, smothered it in MSG, then sprinkled crack on it cuz I am addicted for sure." That Auntie was so nice too she gave us a free sushi cuz we had just renewed our vows that day. Such Aloha in that store.

Born and raised in East Honolulu ( Niu Valley ) I have spent most of my 61 years on the Windward side of Oahu. I have driven past Waikane Store hundreds of times but never thought to actually stop in there until my sister watched your video. We went on Wednesday for our " eat out day " and it was soo much fun !!! I was just going to get the Maki sushi but we ended up with the fried chicken too once we found out there was no bone. We usually go up the coast to Kaya's for their Maki sushi but Waikane Store was a winner too :) Sooo good ! And Waikane Store is alot closer to where we live in Kaneohe. My sister was saying that we saw them on You Tube. It was really sweet how happy they were with that news. Thank you for this review. You guys are doing a great job for us locals that just need to get out more !

If any episode was too short it was this one. This is right up my alley. I’m old now, but even when I was young people would tell me I’m an old soul. I like new stuff, however the old style stuff really touches my soul. The extra outtakes today too. 😂

I grew up in Hauula so would go to Sam's for musubi and pake cake. In fact, I still go grab some whenever I go back. Live mainland now. Used to go Ching's a lot too. Kahuku superette was another good one for poke and rice. I need to plan a trip back soon! haha. Thanks guys!

Love these OG General Store local kine grindz! We often used to stop at the Waikane Store when we drove around the island, but the most nostalgic store for me was Ft. Ruger Market. I often stopped by there with friends in high school and college, and because I worked at nearby KCC, I also picked up Hawaiian food occasionally, though the poke was too expensive to bring to potlucks at school, and there were so many good places to eat at KCC and in the area. Kaimuki-Kapahulu is really a local food paradise at affordable prices! Mahalo for sharing some different kind of places this time.

Wowza. As cheap as the 7-11 but better home made little eats for snacks or meals of smaller bites. This is real local flavor and would make a great foodies tour. Bet folks would happily pay $100 for three historical General Store stops. Just my old school travel agent mind. The Von could easily do this with just three or four Authentic Foodie's O'ahu General Store Personal Tours. The first time I saw you two was at a back road drive inn stop, another series theme. Start at the Rainbow. "EXPLORE YOUR INNER FOODIE!" is a perfect byline for your branding. I really appreciate you all.

But can be used to imply cheap! Which implies the stereotype that Chinese were Cheapskates or tightwads! Where some would say frugal or practical? You decide! Still better than “Chinaman”!🙄
