This is the first time in my many years of listening to podcasts that I went on YT to do it. The product demo is a fun idea and made me change my behavior!

I’ve been amazed using Replit! I think this is where the skills of a Product Manager can really shine. We are experienced with describing the scenarios we want to build and can identify where the product can be improved. It’s been so fun to experiment!

I think it solves the 'this is the requirement' --> 'we built to that requirement here it is' --> 'checks it out' --> "Sorry, I gave you the wrong requirement, here's the new one' cycle...When I as a product owner can prototype something, it shortens the cycle! (even if i hand off the code to professionals to build a solid product)

as long as that also involves customer feedback or you can quickly build the wrong thing more quickly ;)

I signed up for Replit prob 3 yrs ago but never actually used it after the initial test-drive. It wasn't as compelling as just another cooler looking browser based IDE. BUT, after this episode of LP, I am so going back to try my hands :) As a PM leader who has limited bandwidth, I can see this could be quite useful for low fidelity prototyping during product discovery phrase. One aspect I would do more research on Replit for is the data security, typical thorny topic for software procurement at larger enterprise.

Replit still has a way to go. Just tried it and I would not recommend it to anyone that wants to actually build an application. It's not working. Error and error until all your money is gone.

It would be amazing if Replit can allow users to build 1 project for free to get an idea.

"This looks like a product I could see designers spending days designing". Ngl, that's unreal. Maybe a designer without proper training? But great video and interview. Love the possibilities Replit has unlocked. In 2018 I spent hours on Bubble + contracted with a Bubble developer to build an MVP like this. Proud Replit investor.

Jevons paradox: As developers get more done in less time, you hire more developers for longer hours. The resource gets more bang for buck, so you put more bucks into it instead of something else. Its like... when your car gets more fficient you use more petrol... because its cheaper to drive so you drive more.

I pay for KZbin Premium to avoid the 15-20 second ads KZbin normally shows. I understand creators need sponsorships, and I can tolerate some commercials, but putting in 2:30 minutes of ads is just too much. It feels like I’m dealing with more ads here than what I’m paying to avoid

Properly speaking, the whole episode is just an AD and demo of Replit product. Other episodes mostly provided some interesting information. This one just demos and describes a product.
@alphajuli3t28 күн бұрын
Hmm, if you think this is just all about a single product, I think you're missing the bigger message about where this tech is right now, and where it's going. Replit is just one concrete commercial example that helps make it real. Amjad's broader views on the market and skills is interesting commentary anyway. Good chat.

Lenny, thanks so much for exploring the idea of product demos on the podcast and especially for doing it with Replit; I was literally looking into Replit two days ago and wanted to see what the Agent could do but it is pay-walled to even use once, but this episode has helped me see the value of the agent and is encouraging me to upgrade my account to use it!

This would be a great video if any of it were true. Too bad Replit is a terrible AI, that doesn't know how to code, ignores your commands in prompts, and is really just geared toward making more money for the company. They want your code to be broken so they can charge you repeatedly to prompt the AI to code it again. I spend 25 prompts trying to get the Replit AI Agent to change an Href in one of the navigation links from "/" to "/properties"... this proves what a liar the CEO is... his AI even admitted to me after 50 prompts on why the Supabase account set wasn't working it told me "I sincerely apologize for ignoring your requirement for Supabase authentication. You're absolutely right - I should have implemented Supabase from the start since you provided the credentials. Let me fix this immediately by properly implementing Supabase authentication."
@H2theU2theG2thH7 күн бұрын
I completely agree with you. I feel scammed! As things stand right now, no one will be able to build an actual application. It's beta but it doesn't even deserve that status right now. That's the honest truth.

Worst false advertisement ever, i got the impression you can try make a free prototype but they make you cash in 180$ dollars to do it, unless you pay you cant get anything other than AI generated developer friendly brief of what you are trying to do, which is what any other llm does for free, super useless if you are student

Amjad Masad of replit, there is a serious problem with replit right now. Replit non-agent, basic gemini responder, keeps putting my code in Git repository every single time I ask it a question or solution. you can track down every time I ask a question, it does :automatic commit before assistant edits. There are no edits that I've asked it to commit. I dont even say apply. IT just does it automatically. It completely trashed my project. I lost a good 40 hours of coding time. Your product used to be good. Now I'm terrified of asking the basic assistant for a coding solution or suggestion. This started happening around Dec 20/21/22 of 2024. I pay the core price. All I have to show for it now is garbage. I can't resurrect my edits. I even tried creating a new branch before asking new questions. Can you revert or fix the problem?

Replit was a complete and total waste of time. Constantly asking the same questions, prompt after prompt after prompt. Errors fixed, kept coming back after sometime. I was stuck in a loop. I was not able to build the most basic function in the most basic application. Replit creates the environment, that looks nice. But that's it. The rest is just talking and talking and your money going and going. Waste of time and waste of money at this point. Maybe it will get better.

Saying everyone should just 'jump in' and code feels disrespectful to developers who’ve spent years mastering their craft. You wouldn’t tell someone to just ‘jump in’ and start doing dentistry,

You can label it a bubble and bury your head or acknowledge this is actually happening today and learn how to use it for your needs. If you are a developer already you have the biggest advantage out of all of us

The thing with all that is, that even though there is Shopify I still get asked at least once a week how to build a store. Just because things become „easier“ and I‘d say Shopify is the easiest it could get, most people are still to lazy to figure it all out. I think if you know how to code and now get those tools, you can build anything you want without having to have a team with 20 Devs, which i find very special and nice.

Get off your high horse 😂 When people "jump in" trying to code, no one is going to die. You trippin 🤣🤣🤣
