Start a conversation not a fire ! I left my 64 behind after a break from 1986 cause "your in the army now" and later began studying while working for a car company. I was forced to switch to PC and never came back except for repairs. But I still remember long days + short nights since 1983 playing summer + winter games, david midnights magic, silent service, Apache, Pitfall, Kaiser and Vizawrite 64 ... and even a basketball game I can't remember. But still a lot of fun to immerse into the early days of gaming and all its memories.

I would encourage you to dive into the world of demoscene and demoparty scene. Assembly demoparty is probably the one that really got into mainstream knowledge. Everybody that I knew in the 90s were into intros, demos, music and graphics. Games were important of course, but the main thing was creativity and the ability to share and spread the results through BBS system. There are still lot of people who produce demos to C64 and Amigas from the A500 to AGA machines with 68060 turbocards. And the most impressive C64 demos are truly mindblowing. One example that comes to my mind is the following C64 demo which is absolute must to watch till the end kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4iYp2xphZKaeNk It's certainly not the best from technical point of view, but when you realize that it's running on original C64 with floppy drive, it begs to question how it's done. For anyone not being part of that scene it might feel that it's hard to come up with anything meaningful, but I think it's exactly the part of you finding out that scene that would make a great video/series. 90s demoscene produced better everything that anything commercial, and the things people made with these machines were absolutely incredible. These demos look much better with old CRT monitors, and still better when projected on the canvas' on the parties and using 15kw speakers.

Worms will always be special to my wife and I. We used to play it heaps when we were going out, and then engaged. We continued to play various version later in life and included are kids once old enough, including worms 3d on Xbox which we all loved. Even today we have a version on the PS4 waiting for another family games night. Thanks so much for your work.

I too have gone through my fair share of keyboards. Love that Cris is getting back in the groove and decided to keep the "black one". Nostalgia is a powerful, and important, thing. Great interview! Worms is all the way up there with Lemmings and Doom. Great to hear about it directly from one of the guys who was part of it.

Cris is right Edinburgh is fantastic! I always was like: “why the F, would I wanna go to Scotland?! The weather is even worse than here in NL’ Then my brother decided to get married there (on the west coast Stranrear). And I was gobsmacked by its beauty and the people. It’s such a great country. It holds a magical place in my heart.

I remember seeing a small preview for P.I.G. and getting very excited for it. I would look at the screenshots from time to time and imagined playing it. After a time I wondered why there was no coverage in magazines anymore. So I was very happy to learn more about it in your videos. Well, also a bit sad of course.

At 23:55 Cris is mentioning a game I recognise, but due to the heavy noice gate/compression in the audio, I can’t hear the name of that game. Anybody knows? And at 18:14 the screen in the background is showing a graphics program I remember… Can it be Brilliance?

Great video. Andy designed Total Wormage at my school (Bournemouth School) where Bombardment clones were the big thing and people wrote them on graph plotting calculators. He brought his Amiga 1200 over in my first year and showed us ray tracing and morphing in our art class! I owe a bit of my career to him for that. Also I spoke to Rob Legato at the BAFTAs on Sunday (he was nominated for Lion King). He has seen that last video and loved it. I tried to imply he should leave a comment. But if he doesn't, know that he did see it. He also spoke about working with James Cameron... I won't say any more...

Hahah other funny keyboard story. I worked together with another freelance developer at the justice department. He had this very old Microsoft ergonomic keyboard and it was filthy and old and ughhhh. And I’d worked with this same guy at ING and also there he used that keyboard. So I had scoured the 2nd hand sites fir a good ‘new’ one knowing he would go on holiday in a few weeks. So when he was gone, I’d bought 10 packets of garden-cress and some cotton balls and put that user the space bar and put garden cress on it and watered it. I wanted it to grow on more place but it was too tedious. much to my amazement the garden cress would sprout also without the cotton balls as long as it was damp. So all colleagues came to water (and chug garden cress seeds) into Alex’s keyboard for a week. Alex comes in (it was the room next to me) and all I hear is “Doetjes je fucking bastard! There are plants 🌱 growing out of my keyboard”. I started to laugh... and handed him the new second hand one. He was far very happy about that.

Feedback: The compressor is a little bit too invasive on the audio. Otherwise fun nostalgia episode :D
@RetroRecipes4 жыл бұрын
That's fair feedback. I did this because my voice was much softer than Cris's and the only other way would have been to manually edit every single time I spoke. So forgive me. however I have a new wireless microphone setup just installed and this allows me to adjust the dB on the individual mics to compensate for my strange natural speaking volume! Ladyfractic is also quite quiet so it wasn't a problem that occurred to me until after the shoot with Cris. Not that I'm saying Cris is too loud 😉
