I always understood it. Top Gear was pushing further all of the time and at some point someone was going to break. Originally when the announcement come out I thought it was a publicity stunt as they were losing ratings in later series, but I wasn't surprised to be wrong.

Wouldn't get a lot of the exterior shots, lots of stuff needs setting up and the pranks probably need nudging (although I'll admit it does feel like it's a bit of a stolen idea, and the buying one of the guys a silly present) as if it was just general Yom foolery it wouldn't happen as often or on camera as they're probably tired from driving
