Both seasons of this show has been amazing. The story of the SAS, the bravery and madness of those men needed to be told. War is never glamorous, it's ugly and bloody, violent and heart breaking and the story of what these men went through and the things they achieved were incredible and awful. Well done to the team and actors for such an authentic feeling show.

Paddy Mayne was crazy. They actually had to dial back his exploits because they were not believable for television 😂 Seriously get the book - he did stuff that would make Vin Diesel in the Fast Series look amateur level 😂

The first Danish VC was also a part of this unit, but the SBS and was also a bit like paddy Maine. The film The Ministry of Ungentlmanly warfare is about him. His name is Anders Lassen!

Mayne was a madman…and very unpredictable…he was wary of Jim Almonds, and Almonds never really felt his wrath, Almonds himself was no pushover, my fave story is about Mayne driving a Jeep up the stairs in a stately home in Essex.

Paddy Maine leaves his Masonic Lodge after having a few drinks and crashes his car and unfortunately is found dead due to his accident. I bought the SAS war diary for the Stirling Lines Association.

A brilliant tv show that was somehow overlooked during award season. Hopefully the show’s distributor and producers do a better job of promoting it for consideration. In particular the likes of Jack O’Connel, really deserved greater recognition. To me, this show is easily in the top ten series on the ‘small’ screen over the last four years. Have watched it twice, and it was even better the second go around.

Churchill said of the phenominal pilots who flew during The Battle of Britain "...Never, in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." The same could have been said of the SAS....in fact it was 'everything was owed by millions' to a handful of highly skilled, steely men driven to superhuman heights by their hatred of the evil epitomised by the enemy.....and the incompetence within Allied Command! Thank God for those 'lawless, irreverend' soldiers.

The second series script does no favours to Mayne who was the scion of a distinguished Ulster family, Queen's Belfast trained solicitor, boxer, golfer, and Irish and Lions rugby Cap all by the age of 24 (whose only flaw was the red mist after drink), or to his troopers or the regiment. They may have been young mavericks (Stirling and Mayne were 26 when SAS formed) but they were not a rabble as sometimes portrayed on TV, and had the self-discipline, intelligence and courage to win fights against much greater odds.

I love the series and how it all came about but the only question I have maybe someone can enlighten me in the use of vehicles they had jeeps but as yet America had not entered this part of the war and wasn't until the german U boat supply line had been disrupted that leads to the movie Ungentlemanly warfare after the U Boats where disrupted when America entered the war ,which actually crosses over into the SAS with Las becoming a SAS . I find it intriguing how steamily unrelated events are actually linked maybe not by plan but good timing .

If only they didn't used an M60 nazi tank on the last episode, I would be completely satisfied with the first season, but budget is a thing. Hell, I'd even take a resurrected Jock back from the dead for season 2.

I gave this series several attempts. OK, AC/DC music fits the ethos, but not the period. OK, it's a WWII version of the rock-n-roll westerns of decades past meeting tarantino's exaggerated ballet of violence. I've read some of the source materials, and it's a brilliant story, but this series didn't do it. Actors playing with guns in extreme desert conditions, calling it a 'real truth'. Drive a truck, dig ditches, be a plumber, police officer, or fireman. Those are 'real truth' jobs.
