What a fantastic way to breath life into a rarely mentioned bit of the Desert War/The North African campaign of WWII! Researching and writing about Jock Lewes as a novelist, opened my eyes to a whole new level of ‘what it means to be a hero!’ Lewes’ life story and more poignantly his last few hours make one realize that valor is about your choices to the very last moment. What is true courage? For me, I look to Jock Lewes. I look to my own grandfather who risked everything to save people. Thank you BBC for making this band of ‘Rogue Heroes’ mainstream. - Alex David, London to Cairo trilogy

Alfie as Jock is amazing!! His lines are the some of the best lol! “In world where there are no rules, no order, no organized plan. Certain men are identified by war itself as its natural executors. And those natural executors take matters into their own hands.” “I’m bringing together men of a particular calibre, and you are amongst them. The others are all insane, in jail or like me, in despair.”

Can't wait for Season 2. Paddy Mayne in Europe. Jack O'Connell nailed it! Keep the ACDC music. Dirty Deeds should be the title music. With excepts from TNT, Highway To Hell, Long Way To The Top, Shook Me All Night Long etc.
@ad______3436

Paddy Mayne in Europe story line is extremely disturbing. SAS men talking about the experience in Europe versus the desert raids admitted that there is no comparison to the sheer brutality of fighting SAS style within villages or towns. Some even found it difficult to talk about, some cried. Seeing tears or head shaking on SAS men says quite a bit about just how horrific the European theatre was. - Alex David author of Into Seething Darkness.

@@mrsmirnoff8715 Yeah...I read a couple books on the raid and saw the Clarkson documentary so moved by it I drove down there to St.Nazaire to see for myself and the dock area is relatively unchanged, still see the bullet holes in the swing bridge...The U-boat docks are still in good shape...I don't think the french know what to do with them as it would cost a lot to knock them down...It looked like there wouldn't be much to do as for historical accuracy just to take over the docks for a shoot for a couple weeks and a mock up Cambeltown and it would mostly be in the dark...Could be a very good film if it was done well...I bet Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes or Peter Jackson could turn it into a money spinning classic...especially currently with Brit war movies doing so well at the box office these days...We try sow the seeds...wink wink!

First thing on the BBC I have watched in like forever, really enjoyed it. Was the pilot who flew the Dominie from Bermuda? Because if so it didn't happen according to the Carribbean Air Crew website. Also the aircraft was in a post- war colour scheme and markings. The Dakotas were wearing mid to late war markings. Note to the director, aircraft engines and canopies don't like sandstorms they generally have covers over them for that reason. Good effort on the German aircraft colour schemes and markings all things considered, I will even let you off for using Buchons 😁

I wanted to like this series, but didn’t. The anachronistic music, Vietnam-era style, and some of the silly dialogue is very distracting from everything else and makes it all seem like a parody more than a real, historical action series. Which is too bad as the set pieces are incredible, and show the potential this show had. But it’s like getting pineapple and banana on your pizza, it just doesn’t fit and spoils the rest.
