Active-duty Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, mobilize to North Carolina to provide disaster relief support to the community of Chimney Rock in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Oct. 10, 2024.
Staff Sgt. Kyle Clark, an infantryman, provides a working interview during the B-Roll package. The Soldiers helped clear mud and debris that filled homes and stores along the Broad River, which flooded during the storm and destroyed properties, roads, bridges, marinas and took down power and telephone poles.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency provides the generators while the Emergency Power Team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers coordinates with a contractor to install the generators at critical facilities, such as hospitals, first-responder centers and water resource stations. The Pittsburgh District is the lead office for USACE to coordinate the emergency power program. They coordinate Planning Response Teams from across the nation to deploy to disaster areas within 48 hours to communities in need.
USACE is working in partnership with the local, state, and federal response to the Hurricane Helene. 261 USACE personnel are deployed, coordinating with partners in the affected areas. Additionally, 65 USACE personnel are supporting response efforts via reach-back and has 218 contractor personnel deployed.
The Temporary Emergency Power Planning and Response Team in North Carolina consists of employees from the Pittsburgh and Honolulu districts as well as Soldiers from the 249th Prime Power Engineer Battalion, and contractors. So far, the team has installed more than 20 generators and completed more than 40 assessments to determine further emergency power needs.
The Wilmington District oversees the disaster response and relief effort on behalf of USACE in North Carolina. The district provides support to western North Carolina through execution of FEMA mission assignments.

And thank you to all the retired military, (the men with beards) who arrived all over this area quickly. And bringing eyes to this with the help of those with platforms & reach. That makes phone calls happen and young men like this show up. Thanks to ALL who have given one way or another.

@@milliway2010maybe average ppl need to work harder to get into shape then, I'm not talking about the hurricane victims but lazy Americans in general, blue collar workers are under appropriated, especially construction workers, but at least the military knows how to even put distribution of work, like one hauling buckets out to street, one inside shoveling, or a few, and one using a tractor loader to put in dump truck to haul off. Complaining about your position is nullified by the numbers of ppl, unlike civilians where they will just lean against shovels half the day or more.

For people complaining, about 14 years ago Clarksville (Ft Campbell for those who are not familiar) experienced a 100 year flood. We had mudslides, roads go out, houses flooding, bridges threatened, etc. I watched a road wash out and water rise with alarming quickness, cars floating and my neighbors houses underwater. I lived very close to the Cumberland at that time. The aftermath was terrible and we all came together to muck out local businesses that sit on the river. We used sleds, wheelbarrows, and shovels, too. If you haven’t been in a flood you have no idea how the cleanup goes and how long it’s takes. God bless Ft Campbell and God bless our soldiers. 🇺🇸

My neighbors and I were hit but not that bad. We are making a plan around what we did right and what was missing so next time we can help each other by starting from a better place. Be well. Stay strong!

Oh I know how long it takes having lived on the Mississippi for years - even as the water's subsiding, there's already aid coming. This is a massive, government CF - especially when the National Guard was caught doing a rotor wash on a volunteer camp & FEMA's been deliberately useless & confiscating supplies & banning locals from helping each other as soon as they finally got their tardy asses in there. They had helicopters, in one area, that were sitting right next to a local airport that was running supplies while they refused to get off their asses & at least be useful at a basic level! Glad these guys are doing something finally, but there's no goddamned way they should've been this late, especially since I'm near the Ft. Campbell area & lived north of Chattanooga also for a few years! Logistics & distance my ass! There were helicopters coming & going from Ft Campbell during & after this flood & only just now arrived?!

I agree. I've been through seven hurricanes and the flooding should more accurately be called the mudding. Homes get two or three ft of mud in them, the walls aren't just wet. They're covered in mud inside. Dead animals get washed off into the woods somewhere and you don't find them until they stink and they are so decomposed. You can't do anything about it. And you are right. Also, it takes a long time to recover, everything gets wiped out, this is not like a little tiny storm, this is like a bunch of nuclear weapons have been deployed.

Do you want them to break out the pressure cleaner? Our government is doing what it can, in a really shitty situation. I've gone through this before, multiple times. If you want to help, even if you're a victim, get a positive attitude. It's not that easy. My.first hurricane, it was 3 days before we saw any government aid, and the lines were super long. We were without power for 3 weeks. It was hot in Florida. But all I can remember is the people in line bitching My Ex, bitching. My Ex and the neighbor, bitching. And now I see all these videos from North Carolina, bitching about how the government hasn't been to granny's hog farm up in the mountains. Duh, they will fix and help the population centers first, Dingus Mcgee. It's great that you're taking your 4 wheeler to help people, but don't crap on what you can't fathom, wide spread destruction in hard to access locations.
@brethenning9486
@brethenning9486 Сағат бұрын
@@nailbanger2 No being in the military for over 20 years I know first hand there are better ways to remove it. Second the military should of been deployed the first day, and some wanted to go but your great leader told them to stand down. Next I suppose you believe it's better for contractors to go in their to fix the roads and power and not have the military working on it. And yes I have been there, and have family down there so stop with the leftist tears thinking your the only one who knows what's up. I am not saying that the military is not helping, but I am saying the leadership is like what's coming out of the white house. Now I am blocking you, because you won't say anything worth my time.

I'm from the area that was hit and my family still lives there. I was able to make it in with a truck of food and water a few days after the storm hit. North Carolina is extremely thankful for all of the help. That said, the response from the Federal Government deserves some criticism. The initial rapid response to the situation came largely from private citizens who saw the devastation and did what they could to help.
