Maybe I've lost my mind because I'll sit here in OK and watch these men work for HOURS. I'll be donating to local churches or fire departments monthly for the rest of my life. Yeah my buddy is a lineman from Arizona. His company got sent to North Carolina and now he's headed to Florida to help get power on. @@Chris.Rhodes The government arranges assistance from power companies (all utility companies needed) all over the U.S and from other countries. Whenever there is a storm that is likely to cause widespread power outages, assistance is sent in from other utility companies. We had several additional utility companies in WNC before the storm hit due to the disaster declaration. This is part of FEMAs job. They brought them in along with additional DOT crews.. (They had additional first responders here as well.) They are the primary point of contact for utility companies. Several people really don’t know or fully understand what FEMA does and that creates misunderstandings.

@@Chris.RhodesOne thing I’ve heard several people say that has been a bit boggling is…. Why isn’t FEMA here fixing my power? Why isn’t FEMA clearing my road? They know who works on utilities and state roads. Some are just wagging their jaws and stirring the pot (and someone needs to tell Lisa to stop gossiping). ** oops. almost dropped my phone and accidentally hit send. It sounds like communication and coordination of all help centers would be an efficient way to make the most of the supplies on hand. You did an excellent job redirecting supplies where they were needed most. The idea of adopting a family is great. It is similar to the idea of “wrap services for an individual or family.” In social work, it is forming a team of professionals to work together to meet the needs of the family. Families are matched to services providers. This helps getting the right services to each particular family and avoids duplication. - retired social worker from Alabama.

Re: Title I feel like it IS getting better. Look at all the honor, sacrifice, heroism & love pouring in from caring citizens, churches, businesses, organizations, linemen, first responders, local fire-police-sheriff’s personnel. I’ve heard National Guard dropped in somewhere by helicopters with guys & heavy machinery. Not to mention KZbinrs!! Communication is rocky, but will get better. This video was packed with practical takeaways for managing expectations & how to navigate connections to interface in the most efficient way possible. The journey put a really fine point on the many “why’s “ behing the “what’s” of that insight. Visionary contribution that will multiply blessing many times over. Epic! Keep praying 🙏 If Fed government is there, anywhere, it would sure help if they would invite some of the youtube influencers volunteering to film & report on their work.

The federal government is here. In droves. They don't care about their reputation. The only people criticizing them are 1000 miles away. If you're here, get with FEMA, don't let some punk across the country with political aspirations ruin your life.
@Grateful_Grannie2 ай бұрын
@@hereseangoes Thank you for your reply - that’s good to know. I haven’t heard anyone but locals & dedicated volunteers sharing their personal observations. Everyone has a different piece of the puzzle and with communication still coming online, each can only speak to what they’ve seen in their limited deployment zones. It would be helpful to see Fema’s broader efforts because it’s amazing to see the kinds of things happening at scale that are impossible for volunteers and NGO’s to accomplish. I feel like the story of citizens sacrifices and government’s capacity partnering would be a great narrative. What Fema did in New Orleans was front page news… easy to get behind. It’s not unreasonable to want those optics, to understand Fema’s work in real time in real time and make informed conclusions about it’s present effectiveness. I’m not suggesting it’s not there. It’s FEMA, right? I It’s what they do and I hope it’s epic too. I’d just like to be able to see whatever it looks like rolling out…Personal preference - no disrespect intended. Every boot on the ground there counts in this critical time. By now there’s certainly videos out there. I’ll go look around. Thx again for your balanced reply. 👍

Native Ashevillian here. The biggest problem isn’t supplies, it’s rebuilding the main waterlines. The pipes didn’t just get hit, they are completely gone. Civil engineers are working in tandem with construction contractors to dig and put pipes in place as fast possible it’s complicated because of height differentials. Going up and down mountains with half-ton pipes isn’t something that can be done in a few days. The second is that trash pile up, rubble is in such remote places that it’s either incredibly hard to clear and clean or impossible because it’s inaccessible. I guarantee you’ll be seeing destroyed houses along Yancey county River sides probably forever. We don’t have a lot of money around here except for Reynolds mountain and Biltmore and they keep to themselves. A lot of those people have their second or third homes in those places. Edit: I’m in no way at trying to deter what y’all are doing, it’s good work. I just wanted to inform everyone of the current situation. Also, there was a pvc manufacturing plant that leaked toxic chemicals into the French broad so a lot of the clean up was postponed till the EPA comes in. If you do any near River clean ups in the future. IE River arts district, Marshall, please wear 95s and PPE!

Nobody thinks about all the stuff running under city streets. Water mains, communication lines, electric lines, Natural gas lines, sewer lines. When all that is ripped away with severe flooding, it becomes a logistical nightmare. Stone and gravel and dirt has to be replaced to make a road bed first to even begin to start replacing the said type of pipelines . In clean up of areas that are contaminated, even mold can become an issue. Full respirator and hazmat PPE should be worn. You do NOT want that touching skin. I've been in flooding. Been there done that. Prayers from Wisconsin.🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️

A word from someone who has been through some serious flooding and seen some terrible things: If you're going down to help, bring everything you need to be self-sustaining. Often, assistance groups, despite their good intentions find themselves dropping supplies, chainsawing all day and into the night, then become a burden on the community they came to help as they haven't brought their own food, water, tents or campers etc. Where we were in 2011, there was nothing left but ruins, so bring everything you need down to bathing water and toilet paper.
@MarcGyverIt2 ай бұрын
There's a surprisingly ample amount of resources in the area, I can confirm this. I was there. Stores are stocked and at this point getting things in is no problem, it just depends on which direction you come from. It's getting things to specific houses or neighborhoods that can be challenging.
@judithmcdonald90012 ай бұрын
True, most people in the USA are not very good travelers, they just throw money around. There is a system of protocol during emergencies and so many people do whatever they want without co-ordinating that it slowss things down. It's good to see some semblance of organization going on. People still complain. at first that it's too slow. That happens every time. I worked in prosecutions and like every drunk driver had "2 beers"

That should have been … they are there to help in several ways. They have multiple forms of assistance that people can file applications for. Assistance with home repairs and rebuilding. People that don’t have flood insurance (and most here do not) and had serious - total damage to their homes or businesses need to file an application with FEMA asap. They were telling people to apply even if they had minimal damage but I think minimal damage applications will have a harder time getting approved right now due to the amount of total devastation. Note: Approval or denial is not just up to FEMA.
@pollysshore25392 ай бұрын
Last comment. I know that the state is going to have to buy the land that some homes are sitting on in order to build new roads. There is no way around it in some situations, and it’s heartbreaking when people just squeaked by the storm, but again they will be compensated. It happens every single time there is a new road project. This is going to fuel more talk about the government or FEMA seizing land but it’s not that.
