Trivia: According to Da Vinci, Atalante Alter is not really an alter. Her reasoning is this: The personality of an Alter Servant is based of personality traits present in the living version of the Heroic Spirit, but never manifested outwards nor acted upon (discarded ideas or desires, so to speak). However, Atalante "Alter"'s personality and trauma were born while she was a Servant, so they weren't ever present while she was alive. In fact, her most driving force is the trauma she experienced during Apocrypha. So the Alter in Atalante is just flavour text.

@@daboi6509 Jeanne Alter is an "impossible what-if". The idea of her succumbing to despair and hatred is outright impossible, so Jeanne "Alter" was fabricated from scratch. In Atalante's case, the emotions she has are possible, but they were never close to happening in life. They were born from a traumatic experience in Apocrypha. Since it's not a thought she held during her lifetime, but as a Servant, she's not a real Alter.

Two small nitpick about Arjuna Alter. 1 The one you summon is actually a Lily Servant. 2 He didn't absorb all the gods to gain more power, just because. In the cutscenes you end up understanding that, he wanted that power to stop something like the war that took his family, in the Mahabarata, from happening again. Problem is, he ended up losing his way.

I don't think it's ever been verified, but I believe Cu Alter's appearance is at least partly based on Cu's riastrad/warp-spasm ability from legend. He'd turn into a berserking hideous monster with inverted legs, a gaping mouth you could see his organs inside, his hair became massive spikes, etc.

Kind of, but I'm pretty sure I remember either Caster or Lancer cu mentioning that Cu Alter is still weaker and much less feral than actual Berserker Cu, which is locked in Warps Spasm mode. So, while Cu Alter has some characteristcs of the Warp Spasm, ultimately it's a very different beast (Pun Intended)

Marie is in the same situation than jeanne. The one from the event was just an illusion who came from the imagination of eris(the welfare lancer of that event) the the real marie did mention that this alter would be very close from what a real marie alter would be.

On Emiya-Alter, this version of Emiya was summoned to stop Kiara and her cult. A lot of the backstory of Emiya-Alter is unknown but Kiara and her cult is the main factor to his backstory. Notes: Kiara in Fate/Extra, due to a curse attracted large amounts of cultists who praise her beauty. This allows her to gains cult, wether she wants it or not Emiya-Alter's mind was more broken due to the unshakable loyalty of Kiara's cultists. Murdering a unknown amount of cultists who threw themselves Infront of Kiara. As shown with Shirou, Emiya dispises those who have a unshakable and stubborn mindset. And the cultists, every single one measuring in thousands at least, held the drive to protect Kiara. Basically: Every cultist became a mirror of Shirou that Emiya had to cut down. And at the end, he wasn't even able to kill Kiara, she killed herself as Emiya got to her. Not even granting Emiya the ability to kill her himself, killing so many cultists to not even touch the leader who he was summoned for

Jeanne alter wanted to piss off altria alter by stealing her present bag and giving out all the gifts inside before altria can so altria will be pissed off and all the children who should have got their gift would cry. Also, she asked kid gille for a potion of invisiblity(of course it turn it was the potion of youth) so that it would be a substitute for her lack of presence concealment. It wasn't mentionned to whom jeanne wanted to give the gift but the way she said she was going to hand them out means its probably to anyone but those who re supposed to get them. Edit : after turning into a kid, jeanne alter lily pretty much became a separate entity from her original as she is the one who somehow want to prove she can be a better santa, refere to her grown up counterpart as a separate being and she doesn't even think like the normal jeanne alter.

In addition, she then denounces the title of Santa by the end of her event, as she realized that being Santa wasn't what she actually wanted. This means that by the end of the event, when she is finally a stable Servant, she is just Jeanne Lily from a "what if" timeline where Jeanne saw the sea as a child. You can then take this to another level by having Summer Jeanne as the grown up version of Jeanne Lily, as a natural course of her loving the sea.

Because Alaya, the will of mankind, is the Counter Force. Gaia is the will of the planet. They are OFTEN in opposition, but not always.

Rather, Gaia and Alaya have their own respective Counter Forces. Alaya has its Heroic Spirits and Counter Guardians, while Gaia uses Elementals and some Divine Spirits as agents. Gaia's Counter Force is what prevents the planet from being destroyed by Earth-born creatures, which is part of the reason why Moriarty was able to use the Shinjuku Singularity (an urban metropolis isolated in time) in his plan to prove that he could destroy the world. Enkidu has the ability to tap into both of them when using his Noble Phantasm. These contradicting forces interacting is what makes his Enuma Elish so devastating.

I think the most interesting thing about Emiya Alter is that he represents the logical progression of the Heart of Steel bad ending from the original Stay Night visual novel. In the ending Emiya kills Sakura to prevent her from harming more innocents for the sake of living up to his ideals. The reason this is a bad ending is that it would mean abandoning his own personal happiness and humanity to follow the flawed dream that Kiritsugu learned to abandon. For it had ruined him. The fact that Emiya Alter murdered innocents and thus abandoned his humanity and peace of mind for his ideals relays perfectly into one of the most interesting bad ends of the VN. The counter force even corrupts Emiya and causes his memories to fade and become twisted just to maintain the soldier that is Emiya Alter. He is brainwashed to put the Human Order before the happiness of Shirou Emiya as he crumbles for the rest of eternity. His character is a cool callback and thought experiment on the original story. Oh, and to give it even more credibility the skill that cause his brainwashing is called Derisive Heart of Steel.

The highest level of magic and divinity is hyper advanced technology in the fate universe. As you'll see in LB5, but other examples, the moon cell could summon over 255 servants easily, when fuyuki takes hundreds of years for a set of 7. Or the saint graph system in general, saving heroic spirits as data that can develop beyond the usual confines of classes.

One thing to add to Cu alter, that i think was a missed opportunity in his creation is that Cu often went berserk in battle (called a "war span" I believe) in the myth his feet bent backwards, one of his eyes popped out of it's socket and streams of blood spewed from his body.

@@papaaeon7210 Nero Alter is theorized to be Mother Harlot and possibly the other half of Beast VI it has been hinted for a long time. even all the way back on EXTRA where Gawain calls Nero; the "W**re of babylon" which was one of Mother Harlot's titles (censoring the word cuz idk if YT will take issue with it) There's also that Summer Nero has a skil called "Seven Crowns" which is a dumbed down version of Goetia's skill "Ten Crowns", which is both a reference to the seven headed beast that Mother Harlot rides and the 7 hills of Rome and to top it off, we do know that Nero forcefully fits herself into the Saber class by using her Imperial Privilege, since for some reason she doesn't want to be summoned as a Rider, which seems to be her proper class you can probably find a thread on the r/grandorder subreddit that goes more into it also, to add a bit more to this mess recently it is thought that perhaps Elizabeth will become. or can be the Beast that Mother Harlot rides

Lalter(The shortened version of Lancer Artoria Alter), is also an incarnation of the Wild Hunt, a group of roaming beasts, hunters, and spirits, that would show up and wreak havoc across the land, and anyone caught in its range would never come back. The Wild Hunt was a way, in older times, to explain Tornados, Hurricanes, and other similar phenomenon.

@@Thekoodie alignment in Fate is much less like D&D's strict system of universal morality, and more how they seem themselves and the things they feel they are. I'm not 100% aware of Atalante's legend, but her evil alignment would put the burden on herself feeling she does evil and so she is.

I kind of assumed that Cú alter was less of an expression of the blackening and more just Cú being summoned in his "warp spasm" state like in his original legend where he literally transforms into a grotesque monster of a man in his battle fury. The way he transforms in his NP also matches up pretty well with a lot of descriptions I've read from the legend.

My take on what makes an alter is somewhat simpler. I find that depending on the specific servant, certain aspects of character traits witnessed and attested by their lessers are magnified, this magnification being the focal point of the corruption. Artoria, as both Salter and Lalter, was a king of some repute and all kings have power and enemies. Both the Picts and the Saxons, and maybe disenfranchised elements in Camelot, namely Mordred who united them under rebellion, accepted a tainted view of Artoria. This tainted ruler uses authority indiscriminately and does as they please. This trait is even stronger in Jeanne D'Arc Alter, who was defamed and burned as a hateful witch, despite having no such quality about her character. While the were no truths to these crimes, there were still believers in these lies, thus I believe this is how the Grail was able to manifest such a perversion. Cù Chullain Alter is an over simplification of how ruthless he was on the field of battle, even when gravely injured. Nothing less than a raging monster. In fact, his altered form is a technically more accurate representation of his legend than how he is as the beloved Blue Lancer. Even with retcon, Okita Alter further reinforces the notion as Okita was a prodigy. In no time in her incarnation as part of the counter force, knowing nothing, she quickly adapted and overcame the situation. Atalante alter is a strange one as she doesn't fit into that argument. All I can say is that regardless of which class, she is a cat girl because she and her lover were turned into lions and alter is just more lion like, more bestial, than her Archer form. Emiya alter is where it gets really nutty. The red Archer we know comes from the achievement of the dream of the f/sn protagonist becoming a hero of justice by becoming an agent of the counter force. More to the point, alter is the product of Archer's whole twisted ideal in the ubw chapter, crystallized and personified. It's easier to pursue an ideal under an employer who shares in it, even in a more corrupt fashion (read, Kiara) than to do so to a seemingly intangible construct as "the world", because to over simplify the both of them, they're both mercenaries, only Alter is actually getting some payment in exchange, while the red Archer just kinda sits around making swords in his weird workshop. Finally, Arjuna alter is just an ass in a bunny suit.

Day 1 player here. A huge thank you. Since London's release when I first saw Alter Artoria Lancer, I just couldn't find anywhere how she came to be. Lore was non existant, google's results were scarce beside some japanese sites and translating them didn't help. . When Camelot got released I got even more confused thinking what could've happened for the embodiment of Goddess Rhongomyniad to get corrupted/altered like that. . It never crossed my mind that her Alter Lancer wasn't the Spear Goddess at all but Artoria herself umtil now. Google didn't really helped me here so, again, from the me back in 2017: thank you.

I think emiya alter is really interesting because he's basically just emiya but fully played out to his natural conclusion. After shirou becomes a counter force guardian he's basically already an alter, that's why emiya and emiya alter have some similarities between them. Emiya archer is basically shirou's alter version in terms of personality and appearance. Where emiya alter comes in is that regular emiya might have given up his dream and became cold, he never got rid of his humanity which allowed him to keep pieces of his original personality like some slight compassion and a small tendency to save people or not liking collateral damage. Basically shirou is still in there he's just not as idealistic as he once was. Emiya alter on the other hand has given up everything that made him who he was just to make sure that the mission of keeping all humanity alive is a success. While emiya with try to keep casualties to a minimum alter will do anything and everything no matter the cost. Saving everyone by sacrificing everyone, in all essence what regular emiya would have become if he didn't retain his humanity.

Eh. I'd slightly disagree? EMIYA isn't that different from Shirou. For all his cynicism and practicality, EMIYA goes out protecting people like a true hero on every route except UBW. The only real difference between him and Shirou are their viewpoints on why he wants to become a hero, which is more hindsight and experience than an actual change in personality.

Not really, EMIYa literally is just shirou in personality, the only difference is experience and how they justify their reasons in being a hero, but even so, he still goes out of his way to save people and help others selflessly, Archer EMIYA just *wants* to think he is different from his younger self, but is deep down the same, Alter EMIYA is truly a separate EMIYA from his Archer self and shirou

Not dumb at all. Alters are naturally geared more towards evil and usually become such through becoming corrupted. They are also a “what if?” Scenario personified. An alter ego is a direct split off of an existing servant, like the Sakura 5 from bb and okita alter off of okita. Usually they more heavily represent an aspect of the original, with the one outlier being Sitonai who is kind of just her own thing

Where does Lancelot berserker fall in this because he doesn’t have the alter title but he seems to like he should. Lancelot saber looks to be the normal or original version and the beakers form is different version of him. Also similar to artoria alter he has that dark purple armor with red veins. Lancelot berserker is an odd ball.

It's weird just how much of a difference a summoned servant had vs the ones we fight in story. I just killed the Dioscuri in Olympus and I HATE them so much for their arrogance, pettiness, and Pollux lack of ability to think of anything beyond "Big Bro is so cool!". Yet the one I summoned is just tame enough that I enjoy them. Same with Chiron and Odysseus.
