Behind The Wheel: 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

Aston Martin has been putting cars on the racetrack, in movies and on teenage boys' walls for more than 100 years which is why they are an icon--defined by being instantly recognizable and able to catch the eye (and ear) of people who don't normally care about cars. From their sporty beefed-up V12 Vantage that we drove last year to this ultimate grand tourer, the 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, they obviously have the "beauty and brawn" equation nailed.

WRC cars have column mounted paddles. Their paddles go up nearly the entire side of the steering wheel, but it's the though that counts, right?

To be fair, a large number of more track oriented cars have their paddles mounted on the column (GT-R, 458, niche Lambos, etc...). So, having paddles mounted on the wheel or the steering column isn't an indicator of a car's intent. Both a Hyundai Sonata and an Audi R8 have their paddles mounted on the wheel. That doesn't mean that the Hyundai is a weapon designed for Streets of Willow. That being said, this Aston, like most Astons, is over priced.

Hysterical. That is probably the dumbest defense of Astons I've heard to date. Once a car's MSRP equals that of a 458 Italia but is no faster or agile or opulent or more aesthetically pleasing than a $125k Jag F-type R Coupe it has indeed become overpriced.
