I have driven this road and the video does not really show how narrow it is or just how much elevation change there is. That was moving at a really good clip.

Sure it's a beautiful car, but for WELL over $250,000, it better be! Give me the new Jaguar F Series for $70,000, with similar looks, and also VERY fast.

Stefano M. I've seen both at a car show, and seeing as both car companies were also owned by the same corporation, it stands to reason that they would share similar bones.
@ThomasFerrugia

Stefano M.: And that's funny because . . . ? The cars, of course, do share a lot of design elements. The rear haunches, lower side surfacing, hood and side scoops and the basic proportions are all similar. The Vanquish was heavily influenced (and shared architecture and most of its running gear and components) with the DB9. The DB9 and the F-Type were designed by the same man - Ian Callum - so its makes sense that the cars would share common values. PS - I used to own a DB9 Volante and now have an F-Type V8 S Convertible and the resemblance is obvious.

you can have a manual in it, its not a "standart feature" but aston will do pretty much anything you want to the car. They can give a brand new manual gearbox even to the old Vanquish, which they regularily do. The only limitation of what you can adjust or change on your Aston is your pocket.

The car is awesome. The sound is awesome. But stop telling everyone about the fantastic roads in southern Ohio. They all stink. Nothing but pot holes and 25 mph. Nothing to see here... Move along...

Aston just signed a co-op deal with Merc, AMG will now be helping Aston with R&D with engines and possibly transmissions. I think it will be a fruitful relationship. I know AMG can get more power in the same displacement and I hope they get rid of that horrible automatic, if you dont have a stick, at least throw in the best dual clutch PDK you can get your hands on, Aston money is real money and I would expect them to do away with that clunky piece they got in the car. Hunting for gears=lost
@AnonymoussourceL0L
@AnonymoussourceL0L 11 жыл бұрын
Maybe if Aston had any R&D money left they could come up with a better gearbox. Or at least use a better one from, say, Getrag. Both the SLS AMG and 458 Italia use the SAME set-up. So I'm wondering what's stopping Aston? I'm actually not sure which is why I won't jump to any conclusions. But it's just a little annoying how Aston continues to use some archaic technology. Some tech they've only recently stopped using *cough* Volvo sat-nav *cough*.

That's exactly what I was thinking during the whole clip. Those awful noises on kickdown or upshifts just don't match the beautiful 50's racecar sound. Plus the autobox seemed it couldn't make up its mind at times, nervously shifting up and down. Droping one gear, then realising it ain't enough and dropping another. I wonder when Aston will come up with a dual clutch, with them not being backed by a huge corporation and all. Would suit the car mutch better, imo.

Too bad there isn't a engine comparison video like this between a 2010 m5 v10 and a 2011 m5 v8 TT....I haven't seen any videos at all really similar to this one on the Audi S6 or Rs6 for that matter...if you could get a white one please lol!! I honestly have not seen a single in depth video at all of Mercedes GL63 or ML63 which are amazing cars...say compare them too BMW X5M or X6M..or perhaps Audi Q7 V12 or Porsche Cayenne Turbo...or for shits Jeep SRT-8 ...Just send me some T-Shirts :)

BRAVO! Excellent filming and audio! This is the best example ever of "car porn". No talking, no BS, just that sweet ass exhaust! A very nice change of pace from the usual boring narrative about facts you can read anywhere. I"m going to record that beast of an exhaust sound and replay it in my Subaru everywhere I go! (Until my wife makes me quit)

The downshifting sound's crap to me. When there was manual gearbox, guys nearly always did heel&toe shifting, this was much more beautifull to hear and even to do than any fucking 1 nanosecond time shifting gearbox. Sooo sad that the astons have a great sound today. Well, the gearbox seems to match the chassis xD

Was this the v-8 it didn't sound like the v-12 I had mine was 2 years older... But it could very well be the mixture of outside wind noise and interior sound deadening ....but at certain points it does sound like the 12 get it up to 3750 and slowly accelerate to redline ahhh the sweet sweet sound !!!!

you don't get the point of this car! The point is a grand tourer. It isn't meant to be a hardcore sportscar like the R8! The R8 is about getting to you'r destination fast. The Astons are so you arrive in style! This car is to go to some mountain roads and enjoy the view when you get there.

Love the car, love the sound of the engine, but I now hate even more the blasted sound of automatic transmissions. The sudden and unnatural timbre shift as it changes gears, might as well be a 1980's secretary's Mustang! Give me a manual!

Don't worry, just because it a standard transmission isn't on the options list doesn't mean they won't do it for you. They did retrofits in the last Vanquish. Aston is a very accommodating company if you have the money.

It kind of is. Although it's been updated over the years and thoroughly modernized, this engine's basic architecture (and displacement) dates back to 2003 when Ford owned Aston Martin. A the time, the most efficient way to develop a 'new' V12 for the FH platform was to join a pair of Ford Duratec V6 engines via a common crankshaft. If you look into it, you'll see that the Duratec V6 was rated at 225 HP and this engine, in its first version (without variable valve timing and updated fuel delivery system that was added later) was rated at 450 HP (exactly twice the power of the Duratec). Even to this day, the engine is still assembled in Ford's plant in Cologne, Germany. I used to own a DB9 (which uses the same engine) and the pistons were the same ones that you'd find in a Ford F150 pickup.
