Poor Hortensia, everyone thinks she's a bully but she's just warning the other kids. She's a rule breaker that doesn't care about being caught and punished (presumably why her arm is broken?) and is the one that has been trying to stand up to Trunchbull before Matilda got there and succeeded. In the book she tells Matilda and Lavender about all the pranks she's pulled on Trunchbull and all the kids see her as a war veteran.

True. The song leads us to believe that she is a bully and the school is a horrible place because of bully children, but turns out it was the headmistress lol

Thats why she wears a red beret not a hat like everyone else and the badges are probably given to her by someone everytime she does something bad i think?

Yea and you see her be just that in this, the candy, the red out of uniform hat, the buttons, she's even late for class, I first seen her and I new she was just warning them for sure.

My favourite part of reactions to this song is the realization of the alphabet hiding in the song - it would be clever enough to just sing the thing once with all the letters showing, but nope, they sing it through once to get you into the song, and then repeat it to say "look at what you didn't notice the first time!"
@grassiehalls3922

Second favourite part of reactions is the cry of "Phys-Ed!!!" at that part, the realization of how Z was incorporated

I think most dubs did it actually. I watched it in portuguese and its amazing too. The stage musical is actually exported to different countrys, so the songs were most already translated to their respective languages, so I think the movie just used the translations from the stage musicals. Of course it doesn't work for every language. In portuguese for example, the letter "Y" is the only one that dosen't work at all, so they just translated the word "why" literally.

I love Naughty, too! Don't forget that one! I sang it and played it to a really imaginative four year old I was nannying because of the usually deleted verse about Cinderella (we were reading a bunch of fairy-tales) and she really seemed intrigued by changing her own story. She told her mom that she came out of a story because of the magic in her green eyes, along with Peter Pan (her imaginary friend/brother/alter ego). Peter was usually the naughty one.

The director Matthew Warchus also directed the stage version. He also directed the other Minchin musical Groundhog Day (which is coming back to London in May!). Matthew’s wife Lauren Ward was the original Miss Honey (she also appears in the opening section of the opening song of the film version) The prefect saying who they are etc. picking on Lavender was in the stage version 2018-19 as Lavender so it must have been sort of like revenge for her!

glad to see your reaction - it was definitely my favourite song from the musical and it was made fantastically in the theatre performance. In the movie, it was also quite successful and I also listened to it until I could sing it along. some of the letters were amazing - 'aRsking' , for example? how does Tim Minchin think of that?? :D he's a genius - him, Shakespeare and Eminem, those are the three wordsmiths I recognise :D
