The cinematography in this film was absolutely spectacular. I think that this was a movie that is just about perfect. And the two leads were just so wonderful together.

I'm always struck by how intelligent and articulate Matthias is. Yeah, he's good-looking, but physical attractiveness is nothing without intelligence.

It is funny how nobody comments about Carey Mulligan, Everyone only sees Matthias Schoeeaerts on every interview in every movie. He truly is a work of art, one of a kind, intelligent actor. Simply wow.

I loved the sheep in the water/dipping scene. It was so well done and so much was communicated without words.

Great book and lovely movie. Wonderful acting all around but particularly Matthias Schonaerts portrayal of Gabriel Oak.

I enjoyed Hardy's novels and looked forward to what a genius like Vinterberg would bring to it! The scenery (cinematograpphy) in Dorset is pure perfection, a revelation of Hardy's vision of his imagined Wessex...the landscape of his youth. In every interview Matthias so generously shows a wonderful, open, fun, friendly, intelligence which sees me searching for more and more of his films to revere! I watched "Rust and Bone" this evening and (in my opinion) this cast works magic together, there is no doubt. But for me, Matthias' Gabriel Oak is the sexiest shapherd who ever lived!! lol Yes, I love watching him tackle English accents, Boston accents, speaking in French and Flemish! What a huge talent, what a sexy man! am a huge fan!
