Per Behr, most of their standard paint colors can be used to tint the chalk paint. I fell in love with a particular brown color in their standard latex paints and was delighted when they told me that I could have the chalk paint tinted that color in order to refinish by desk. Now I just have to manage to do it!

Hey Jesse, loved your video! I purchased the behr chalk paint and wax this weekend at my local Home Depot and they allowed me to pick any color off the wall to tint my paint so just an extra fyi for you. Thanks for your video, super helpful!

Hi Jesse! I am refinishing a dining table in a flat black paint, I normally would finish it with the BHERE matte polyurethane but am wondering if the wax would be better?? thoughts?
@JessedoesDIY4 ай бұрын
I honestly really like the wax myself, but it may come up to a satin finish instead of the matte, satin is also more durable than a matte finish especially for a table as the matte clear may get polished over time from wiping and use anyways. The poly can have a bunch of issues and can be a pain to finish out nicely if you've never done it, that said it is more durable. Not trying to scare you though, but the wax is just so easy, gives a great finish, is easy to reapply if needed in the future and from my experience, lasts a long time anyways. I had no complaints with it. If you are hard on the table, then maybe poly, if you aren't hard on furniture, then I'd wax personally. Hope that helps

What grit do you recommend for scuffing up the shiny areas before painting? Your video has been the best I have seen so far!
@JessedoesDIY2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. If all you're doing is scuffing it up and no paint is peeling or flaking just 120 grit is fine. Enough to give it something to bite into without making it too scratch marked. 120 will give a good finish

What is the clear coat material you were talking about?
@JessedoesDIY2 жыл бұрын
They actually make a clear top coat for this paint that comes in a can like the paint that you brush on. I believe Rustoleum makes one.

Thank you for the great video! Do I REALLY have to use the primer? I am planning to turn dark brown cabinet to light gray. If yes, which primer should I use, shellac base?
@JessedoesDIY3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! No you don't really need it, I didn't lol. It will just take fewer coats if you do. Any latex ready wall primer will work. Apply it and sand once dry with 220 grit paper, wipe the dust off and then you're good. But if you want to go straight to paint, be ready for probably 4 or 5 coats like I did

Does anyone know if you can paint over behr wax (if so after drying or curing, and in the same vein how long this wax takes to CURE not dry? they literally dont provide this info anywhere, they have oversimplified their products for ease of access to off shelf crafters but as a result the labels and instructions are almost useless) thanks to anyone who may have info! all i can find anywhere online is info thats referencing Anie Sloans waxes which are designed to be painted over with their paint.

Hey, Varathane makes a great water based clear coat that won't alter the look of it, I have used it plenty and trust it more than the "chalk clear coats" out there. It is a blue can called Diamond clear coat, just make sure to get a matte finish to match the chalk finish. Hope that helps

Does anyone have experience with/know what the ACTUAL *cure* time on Behr deco wax is? And if it does okay being painted over after curing? I have always loved Behr indoor paint, and I’m getting incredibly aggravated and disappointed with them w trying to use the chalk paint / wax- yes the labels are pretty but there is almost NO technical information on them whatsoever. They either haven’t tested their products or don’t care and are just going for off the shelf DIYer $. I contacted to company for this info and all they did was regurgitate that it’s “15 min”, except they didn’t seem to know there was a difference between dry and cure time. And they told me it’s a 15 min cure time, which is BS and probably not possible. The cure time is important for so many reasons but super important for potentially painting over. They just said they “didn’t recommend painting over it”. It just sounds like they have absolutely bo idea what they’re talking about or what their product does/how it works. Which means they probably also don’t know what’s actually in it. I was really into the idea of using their stuff bc it’s ACCESIBLE and medium price point. But it’s seeming like it’s probably not worth it at all in the long run vs shelling out twice as much from the “good stuff” (which sounds like it needs to be Annie Sloan or Dixie Belle, as much as I’m not into the marketing). Anyone have experience or thoughts on this? Seems like YT needs to do science experiments on their product bc their own mega co can’t bother to, and that really kindof sours me on them.
@obscuriosities2 жыл бұрын
Lol I see now I asked the same Q on this vid a week ago 😅 which just shows I’ve been actively looking for an answer for over a week and have come up with zero information even after contacting the co directly, and that very few people seem to be using this on YT
@JessedoesDIY2 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure myself. Yeah, dry and cute time are very different things, i have that conversation with people quite often. I doubt you can paint over the wax personally, but I can take a scrap, paint and wax it and let it cure and try repainting and get back to you... but it'll be a few days

What did you apply to the gray to get the whitewash look? . . . white wax??
@JessedoesDIY3 жыл бұрын
I showed that in the video before that one, application. It is the white chalk paint, thinned 50/50 with water, brushed a thick coat on the entire top and immediately wiped it off with a shop rag in long straight lines

What is the best brush to apply the behr chalk paint? Apparently I am not using the right one. Paint is not going on very well.
@JessedoesDIY3 жыл бұрын
Do you have one of those large face brushes that I show? You should be able to find one with the chalk paint at home depot. It does go on very different tho than regular paint because it is so thick, you need to work quicker than normal, while only having a little on the brush tips and brushing it out
