How To Use Dark Wax/The Chippy Barn Paint/ Furniture Flip/Behr Decorative Wax

This is an amazing entertainment center I got from a neighbor of mine. This piece is beautiful, but I felt like the solid cream color did not do this piece justice. I hope this step-by-step tutorial is helpful with learning how to master the use of dark wax. I had a lot of new items I tried out in this video. It was my first time using the SurfPrep sander, shellac primer, The Chippy Barn paint, as well as Behr’s Decorative Wax in the dark wax.
A few years I watched a Christina Muscari tutorial on how to apply dark wax. Her video was very helpful and a method I have used for years and has worked very well for me. Here is a link to the exact video I watched.

I love using black wax as well! New video coming up in a few weeks where I use it. Typically my rule of thumb is dark wax with lighter paint colors and black wax for darker paint colors. Except light gray or white paint, I will use dark or black depending on the look I want.

You can apply the dark wax straight on in your case. Clear only needs to be applied first if you are putting dark wax on a flat/matte finish.

I have topcoat on Dixie Belle wax and it does great! But I tried it on a dresser with DIY wax and my topcoat peeled off 😢 🤷‍♀️

Hi. Does wax work only on chalk paint. What if I have a satin finish prime and paint piece which I want you to dark wax?

If it is already protected with Satin then skip the clear wax coat and go straight to just dark wax only. Buff it back to the level of worn you want.

WOW! I probably don't have a sophisticated taste if I can't appreciate this style. I have to be honest, it broke my heart to see this gorgeous piece made look as if it's dirty. I don't get it. You clean it up, paint it so gorgeously, then you make it look dirty. Everything was great till the dark wax.
