I spent many thousands of dollars on the originals during the 20 or so years when NO company was making any analog synths much less making any reproductions. All the while the whole music world was BEGGING for analog to come back. These old companies finally did get off their asses but decided to charge thousands thereby pricing themselves out of the market for many. Arturia was the first to come up with an affordable synth and people loved it but everyone was still begging for reproductions of the originals and no one would make them. Moog and Dave Smith were still making stuff but they weren't doing a single reproduction. Not one. And their stuff was and is very expensive. FINALLY an arp was made by korg and arp and they did a good job, but they had waited literally decades to take action and give people what they were asking for. Behringer came along shortly after korg did and decided to feed the demand at a great price. Good on them and no I don't feel sorry for any of the companies that are now upset because some other company finally came along and gave people what they wanted. They sat on their asses for actual decades.

Excellent review and intro/tutorial. Thank you for showing what you need to to do to get Duo to work! Not obvious from reading the quick startup guide. It really deserves a full manual. The original ARP manual is available for download, so is helpful, but may not show every extra feature Behringer has added. Full credit to Behringer though, for recreating this glorious piece of hardware many of us have been craving for.

I'm an ARP fan.. have an Odyssey, ARP2600 and ProSoloist and while this synth sounds ok it isn't really giving me the ARP vibe I know... that's not to say it is bad ... it's not... but I haven't heard a single recognisable 2600 sound in this video or others... The Behringer 2600 actually has more facilities than the original and Korg reissue but it doesn't give me quite the same vibe.. though some nice sounds toward the end.

@@JohnTrasher partly correct. The LFO is not syncable to external clock. The S/H output is syncable to an external source however the electronic switch in the S/H section is not. It is always linked to the internal clock. The manual claims it is but it is not, this is the same as the original ARP. The Korg 2600FS manual said the same thing but it was also incorrect. It is a shame that Behringer didn't make these other items syncable either by patch or MIDI.

Can the Odyssey serve as controller for the 2600? Can Odyssey keys, sequencer, filters, ring modulator, S&H, effects, etc. control the 2600 oscillators? Can 3 oscillators stack with Odyssey's 2 oscillators to get 5 notes? Any other interesting reasons found to put the 2 instruments together in live performance? I have 2 Behringer Odysseys. Any reason to spend another $600 on this? Questions that make me go hmmmm.
@maydaygoingdown5602
@maydaygoingdown5602 3 жыл бұрын
You can use the Odyssey to play the notes via 5 pin midi. This should in theory allow you to use the Odyssey step sequencer and Arpregiator to control the 2600. However I don't think you can control the 2600 S&H using the Odyssey, it may be possible to sync via CV gate etc but not sure. You won't be able to control the 2600 fliters etc from the Odyssey. It may be possible to route the 2600 audio through the Odyssey though inorder to use the excellent effects found on the Odyssey, if the Odyssey has audio in jacks on the back. Just a thought:). And yes, you will have the 3 oscillators of the 2600 as well as the 2 of the Odyssey...very fat sound:). However the Odyssey has different filters than the 2600. But yes you have 5 fat notes on each key.

I'm glad you've reviewed this. Nice work! By now we've become accustomed to Behringer offering inexpensive clones but.... Wow! This is a damn 2600 clone for $600! That's a pretty big release from them. I've been 50-50 on this thing, opting for the 2500 modules instead, but now I _NEED_ it!

You must be aware that Behringer is using cheap china parts for his products and well it can work very well or it can work one month and then make a nice magic smoke. Somebody opened one up and all parts were very poor quality not holding any specifications and working on the border of possibility for given part.

Ive owned exactly one Behringer synthesizer the Neutron. Was NOT impressed and it WAS noisy with the delay full on. I went out and bought an expensive Dave Smith synth made in the USA paid more, helped support the economy and knew the value of something well built.Quality AND re-sale value if I ever part with it vs. China sourced junk by a hack company!

@@harmonicres I want to buy one of these but feel the same way. The products I've gotten from Behringer in the past were of cheap quality. I payed the extra buck and bought Dave Smith and Moog. Even Korg to me is a Plus!

I am actively blocking any channels or content that promote Behringer due to their unethical business practices. Ripping off old designs and producing substandard gear was bad enough but these days they rip off current designs and actively try and destroy their competitors.

Here's Basari with some more Behringer hate. Funny how every hater claims to have at least 2 other 2600s. Things you have to ask yourself.. Do all 2600s sound the same as each other? No. Do all issues sound the same as each other? No. Is £500 a good price for a very flexible 3 oscillators semi modular synth that can sound great with tweaking and patching? Yes. Is it faithful to the original? No. Does that actually matter to you? That's very individual and you'll never persuade anyone otherwise. No need to hate, why not go spend your time on a channel you like instead?

Because the original ARP 2600's will suddenly stop working or what? More music instruments will mean more music in the world. Just what these dark times need.
