There’s no practical difference between this and the Neve, especially if used as a mix bus compressor, low ratio 1-2db rounding of peaks. Heck, I’d even argue it’s not all that different than an API 2500 or SSL G comp. Anyone claiming the difference is more than subtle at best is full of nonsense. It’s incredible that a compressor of this quality has been brought down to a price point accessible by a broader section of the market. Love or hate Behringer, they are taking advantage of economies of scale rarely seen in the pro audio market.

@Spidouz24 күн бұрын
Well, maybe YOU don’t hear the difference, but it doesn’t man others won’t hear it. I know it sounds harsh, but it’s true and don’t worry, I don’t hear it either. But I’ve done some test in a good studio between Neve and SSL compressor. I knew which track was with the Neve and which track was with the SSL… and yet while switching back and forth, I couldn’t hear the difference even thought I could SEE the selected track in my DAW. I’ve done the same test to my friend which is a mix engineer (Gold and Platinum records), and every time he could point to the correct comp model while doing the test completely blindfolded and without looking at the track or myself. It’s at this exact moment I finally realized that even thought I have a really good ear (I’m a recording engineer), my ear was not trained to hear properly the differences in compressors… I finally understood that I couldn’t hear everything my friend could hear.So just like me, you might not have the perfect ear that some engineers will have… Now having said that, I have absolutely no clue if the Behringer is close to the Neve. It might be close enough to the point it doesn’t matter… I just don’t know. But if some people claim they hear difference with a SSL or else, they might be right, even if YOU don’t hear it. But in the end, that’s the whole point… you don’t buy gear for others (unless you’re a commercial studio). So why bother if you don’t hear it, just buy what makes you happy. But you can’t claim others are wrong if they think they hear differences, regardless if the differences are really founded by great engineers that can hear it, or if the differences are just in the head (I’ve done so many ABX blind test that I know that our head can trick us to hear differences when there’s none. One day, I proved it to a client that was swearing he could hear difference… when in fact he was just listening to a copy of the same file and I just renamed them ‘without treatment’ and ‘with treatment’… he was swearing the file ‘with treatment’ sounded better… when it was actually the exact same file than the other. When I explained him it was a copy and he was wrong, he started to claim that my computer “changed” the tone of the file when I did a copy and when I renamed the file… claiming that when I renamed the file, it did _edit_ the file so that’s why it sounded differently… I swear to god, some people just don’t want to let it go. So yeah, our head can play a trick on us, it happens too… but then it’s up to anyone to decide which product they want to purchase, regardless if the differences they’re hearing are really there or just in their head. You just can’t affirm without any scientific data that they’re wrong to think there are differences… as said, you might just not hear them. If you can’t understand that, then you’re not mature enough to even comprehend the art that music is.

So here's my rant about Behringer. Back in the day they used to be an incredible high-end outboard gear company where all of their equipment was made in Germany. For one reason or another, and I'm not going to pretend to know the reason, they stayed in the business but unfortunately had to outsource their gear to China. Fact of the matter is, the genius of Behringer is still there and it's clearly behind so much of their equipment so when people piss and moan about them ripping other companies off or whatever they piss and moan about when it comes to Behringer, I think they should just look at the situation as being an incredible value for equipment that would cost easily five times as much if it was still made in Germany. And as they have control over what they release, does it really matter who's putting it together? I'm never going to be one of those people who know about labor practices or trade practices or any of that shit but one thing I do know a lot about is equipment. I know what works and what doesn't, I know what's good and what's cheap and by cheap I mean made like shit, I know when I've scored something that is pretty damn incredible for what I paid and that happens more often than not with Behringer equipment. I have a number of their mics that cost under $20 and I use them on a regular basis in recording and stage applications and Not one of my peers have ever asked me what I was using because it was terrible. However, "Dude that sounds incredible... what are you using on that?" is pretty common for me to hear on a Friday or Saturday night. I use their UMC-1820 quite frankly because the Midas preamps are just the shit. Especially for the price I paid. The amount of recordings that I've made with that and not one person, not one single customer ever has been disappointed. In fact because of most people's surprise at the quality and my recommendations I'm sure that I've helped them sell so much gear. But whatever, I do the same with any company that I dig and Behringer's just always been there at the top. Everybody knows that they're inexpensive, but what everybody doesn't know is that about 90% of it is just incredible, sadly just because they're afraid of trying it out incase their gear snob egos get crushed and they have to admit something that goes against every other sheep's opinions. Baaahhhh

Wow, if you pause at 0:10, looking at the solder patterns for the switches and knobs, it seems like they used actual stepped rotary switches 😮 I just saw another video about the various 33609 revisions and different clones where it turned out the almost 2000$ Heritage Audio clone was using cheap 3$ continuous potentiometers.

This has got stepped pots.
@juicythedj7508 ай бұрын
@@RoofLight00a potentiometer only has 3 pins... It could have a "stepped" feeling by adding indents in the moving shaft, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a continuous and less precise control. In the Behringer I'm counting 16 pins for some of the rotary controls so they are in fact 16-position rotary switches, not cheap pots. Maybe not all of them - hard to tell with the video.
