My thoughts on the Behringer Monopoly having used one for about 2 years. Not an in-depth review, just a few thoughts.

I bought a Korg Monopoly a few years back for 450 uk pounds. And the sounds you got from the Behringer are very close. All good.

I've just acquired one. Wanted one since 1982. It's only taken 42 years for me to get one! Thanks to Behringer. I love my MonoPoly. There is a surprisingly huge amount of scope for sound design on it. I love the fact it remains true to the original, no patch storage facility, fully hands on. It forces learning and constant physical interaction. A really lovely and solid bit of kit. Sounds super fat too. It's pretty difficult to say how close it sounds to an original Korg model when all those models have aged differently over 42-43 years in different storage conditions and temperatures, and even korg models side by side sound quite different between themselves (see Kebu's video). So who can say what an original korg monopoly is really supposed to sound like when they're all 42-43 years old now?

Yeah, I would have liked to own one back in the day. The Behringer version is built solid, sounds fantastic and affordable, I also have the B'Odyssey which is also built well and sounds great. Thank you for watching and commenting. Tim.

Very good, all I needed to know! It does look pretty solid, like the Behringer Odyssey, which is literally built like a tank.

I got the original one in the 1980s for $200 because you couldn’t give them away back then , everyone wanted a digital synth. It was one of the best keyboards I ever owned and I had a lot of classic keyboards back then.

I think this would be great next to a Poly D.

A thing to note about comparing these synthesizers, is the original Korg versions are like 40 years old now, who's to say the Behringer won't sound like a Korg in 40 years time when all it's electronics have been thoroughly used and aged.

That is a good point.

Problem with that line of reasoning with Behringer’s synths is the quality of their build materials vs. those used by Korg 40 years ago. They didn’t have the concept of planned obsolescence back then, and they definitely weren’t trying to give buyers the lowest possible price point so they didn’t cut corners on the components they used. Unfortunately we don’t have a time machine to see what the actual failure rate is for the Behringers vs. the Korgs, but I’m pretty sure there will be quite a number less Behringers operating after that same time gap compared to the originals.

It is close but the VCF resonance sounds different from the original. The same problem already existed with the SH101 clone MS1. So it seems to be a problem for Behringer to clone the Resonance despite the many years of development of the synths. I'm looking forward to the RSF Kobol.

@@DisciplinedCommotion You have definitely bought a very good synth. I just wanted to comment on the 1:1 comparison. I also think it's great that Behringer recreated the MonoPoly, I would never have expected that back then. At the time, I thought the first thing to come along would be the really successful synths - clones like the Jupiter 8 etc.
