Watched this video in 2021, decided to get Mono Poly ... wondered why I'd been so convinced, then realized how much it matters to run these things through reverb and delay. I’m pretty sure you can fix the MonoPoly’s more muted tone by tuning the filters frequency. Starsky Carr has a good tutorial showing how he did it.
@mattg0823 жыл бұрын
For sure! I sat with mine on the factory for a day. But the cutoff seem to really not be that sensitive and jump from a muted to open sound fast. Now I have it up to 20khz, giving it more room to fine dial in. I def recommend at least setting it to 15khz. It’s a very nice synth, and something that I could grab basics right away. But the fx section is where I’m learning a bit more daily. If you spend enough time with some effects. You can make some really leads! The organ sound is impressive as well for dark moody stuff. I have a model d. I’d say the Monopoly for me works in a band setting for indie rock stuff. The model d does as well..but not as easily. I spend a good amount of time getting the model d sound I want crafted. The Monopoly, you can kinda run with it out the box....if not getting crazy with the effects.

@Rhizosphere Grandmother is great even without using modular, it's just a great rock solid sounding bass synth with a really nice sequencer/arpeggiator and spring reverb, the patching is just an added bonus.
@24framemedia3 жыл бұрын
@Rhizosphere, yeah I had both and I can say that while they both sound amazing I am more likely to grab a Grandmother again than a Matriarch. The raw sound of the Matriarch is great, just as good as Grandmother but Grandmothet feels more immediate to use. I really don't dig parphonic, it doesn't work with the way I want to play and so I tend to think of synths as either Poly or Mono and forget the paraphonic aspect because I just don't find it something I use all that much, and for the money and a mono I prefer the grandmother. Alot of things about the way the Matriarch was done I find frustrating, the way they implemented global settings for one. I sold both and got a Moog One, the raw sound isn't the same but it is absolutely a fantastic and capable synth that is well laid out and super intuitive. I think for me I have learned a big part of deciding on a synth isn't just sound but what you want to do with it and how it's laid out and whether or not that inspires creativity.

Sorry, but I find this really a strange video. These synthesizers are, and sound completely different, so what is the point of comparing them? Having an individual review of each of them fine, even in the same video but this one makes no sense to me. The monopoly has very specific features that the model D completely lacks so you are comparing apples with pears here. Very confusing.

Thank you. glad you did because I like them both but I didn't get the Poly D when it came out because I got the Hydrasynth.

@@hairyhunk44 i also got the hydrasynth. Its nice to have some real analog synths with no presets, but for handiness, also one with presets like the hydra

Behringer are a terrible company that make terrible products and their knock offs are crap as well. Anyone that reviews their products still hasn't learned this, are not worth any views and that's why you only have 584 subscribers. Good luck with that though.

I disagree, we dont all have much money to spend on a real moog. I find Behringer a great company, also John is an underrated synth youtuber in my opinion.

this comment is so negative. I have plenty of these behringer synths and they are all fantastic in build quality and sound. They go on the used market for almost new prices and when behringer stops producibg some of them they went quickly above the new price. That sais it all.

They upped their game. You are out of the loop with your old opinion.
