Hey Todd. I'll be waiting on an MS-1 MK2. I still have the firat one in red and it still works. Plus I only bought for $200 used, mint in both boxes in Jan. '21. I'm good with it. I'm definitely buying the MS-5. I might think of buying it from Thomann and have it shipped to the US.

Hi Todd, i have k2 mkii. I had 2 of the mki's. I got rid of them due to very poor pitch tracking over midi (I couldn't speak for cv pitch tracking as i have no equipment that supports the hz/volt standard). Apart from the new features - osc sync and osc fm are awesome - i can report that the mkii i received tracks pitch more or less perfectly. There is also much less noise especially from older filter type than the mki's i had. I can't comment re any difference in sound vs the mki as i don't have them to compare but it does sound great.

The K-2 is interesting but probably to buy used. I almost pulled the trigger on a local used Model D but I'm going to wait to see if they drop the price. I don't have a desperate need for it so if anyone pays asking price there's no hard feelings.

Where I am the supply is sso backward we only just got Edge back in stores, and Kobol arrived only last month - which I was waiting for since January. While all this waiting was happening, we saw the release of Model 15 and Proton - this makes my limited budget scream in pain cos I want all of them. Since I already own MS-1 and K-2 (I bought MS-1 over the original grey Roland SH-101 - yeah, no shit! 😄) and am happy with them as they are, the mark2 versions of these do not appeal to me at the moment (although I think the K2 mkII mods are cool).

the new MS-1 is a disappointment. the oscillators are better, but not much else was changed, and they only want to sell red ones.

That was the main point of the upgrade for both units. Making it sound better in the OSC via chip upgrade. I’ll be picking up one at some point

Sure the K-2 has a better chip/sound … ? I’ve been told it doesn’t … just extra switches/shortcuts to certain features/settings … ?! Mk2 MS-1 does seem to sound significantly better, tho …

I have the MS-1 MKII since thursday. I can´t tell the difference between that and the MS-1 MK I, because i never had the MK I and i also never owned the real SH-101, so i can´t even tell if it sounds like one or not.

Any people are very happy with MS-1 sound wise so think they got pretty close. MK2 most likely just made it even better
