They didn't discover the delay trick until the Abacab tour. In 1980 Daryl sat on a stool so he could play it fast enough and in the studio Phil had to play it with his hands because Mike couldn't hold the tempo.

Interesting. I knew Daryl was on the stool but didn’t realize he was playing all of those. Another reason Daryl is underrated! We learned the Three Sides Live version first so we reverse engineered it. That Bass preset makes all the more sense that way.

Poor Daryl didn’t have delay on the Duke tour and had to PUMP THOSE NOTES CONSISTENTLY WHILE PLAYING GUITAR!!! My thigh and ankle are burning at the mere thought of doing that for 5 minutes straight!

I love playing Turn It On Again at the Abacab tempo live! I’m sure they set the delay for the latter and left it for TIOA.

I think you'll find the biggest hit with a Taurus was Don't Stand So Close to Me. The intro bass is all Taurus. Many forget both Andy and Sting played a lot of Moog Taurus. And I'm in the market for a Toro for my PK5s.

I love that Ghost In The Machine era live concert video where Sting has the two Taurus setup.

@@mattthomasoverdrive4514 Yer those were great times. And I do now have a Toro and it is all I could of wished for. Epic sound, a really nice job of recreating a classic. As intended I've got it hooked up to a set of Roland PK5 foot pedals for the full Police, Genesis, Rush experience.

Hi matt I undertand that your touring at the minute (i think i am from uk so im going of stuff i see online hahaha) i was thinking of a cool series. Since you have some of the epic gear tony had from 80-84 it would be awsome to potentially see some isolated keyboards from the reunion concert in 1982 for eg i see you have done back in nyc but it would be cool to see potentially the musical box, the knife, solsbury hill and suppers ready it would be cool to see the reunion concert versions of these songs especially the musical box as it would be cool to know how he played the pianet parts on the synth( which ima have a guess was the prophet who knows) Cheers matt

I did the Lamb/Watcher from 1982, the 1980 Knife (same). I started charting TMB (actually have all the Rutherford and Banks guitars done) but my band vetoed the Six of the Best tour, mostly because we’d have to come up with a flute player, but also because audiences just aren’t as excited about Knife and Back In NYC as we’d thought they’d be.

Hey Matt great video. Cherry Audio just released an awesome Pro-Soloist VST. I know you’ve got the hardware version (Pro-DGX) so it would be cool to see a shootout between the two.

I’ll be checking it out at some point, thanks!

Great Matt, the sound you managed to come up with is practically the same. I recently purchased the TORO and I must say that I am extremely satisfied. As a controller I use the Roland pk-5A. I have a question, if I may: how did you manage to get that 1/8th note delay (slapback)? With the solution you found it is possible to play the bass pedal, without other "tricks" :). Thanks in advance, greetings from Italy. Max

I used a delay plugin matched to the tempo of TIOA in Three Sides Live, which happens to be faster than the studio version and the same tempo as Abacab. My band does it this way live with our Taurus III into a digital delay with a preset. Apparently, Daryl played it all without a delay on the 1980 tour on the Bass preset. The delay on the Taurus preset didn’t come until the next tour.

How does the Toro respond to pitch and mod controls or does it?
@mattthomasoverdrive4514 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, I’ve only just today hooked it up to a standard MIDI controller. Pitch wheel, YES. Default is +/- 12, although I haven’t connected it to the Synth Tribe app which might allow those settings to change. Once at the top of the synth’s range it can only bend up to the highest pitch at the top of the range. Modulation wheel, NO.

@@mattthomasoverdrive4514 Thanks! I read the manual online and didn't see this info. I would have liked to add some warble to those deep drone notes. Sounds like that's not to be. Since there was no LFO in the design I thought not but wasn't sure they hadn't added something.

My quick take is that the Toro is perfect as a Taurus 1 experience performance axe and doubles as a cool bass synth module. The Minitaur is the superior studio piece in terms of features and flexibility.

Which foot controller is that? The korg mpk130? Asking cause I hear the Toro is not compatible with some midi's.
@mattthomasoverdrive4514 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the Korg MPK-130. I’ve also connected it to a Yamaha DX-7II. If it works on those two mid-80s relics, it’ll work on anything. One would just have to check the MIDI settings on both ends.

Great Cover as always, i know people have asked you this question a lot, but do you think its possible doing a Cover of Firth Of Fifth? (from Seconds Out since the Studio version is everywhere on KZbin), ik Seconds Out has new stuff for the organ, like the section before the ARP solo.

I hope to have one done during early 2024. I haven’t played that song with my band since 2019, but we’re doing the 1976 tour next year so I’m due to revisit it.

Hello im looking for some information is this the same bass pedals that mike rutherford used on the lamb tour in 1974-75 i know you specialise in the laterish years but would be cool to know Thanks

Here it is! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJS1l5ugZs2frZY You could surely make those sounds on the Toro.
