For me, this is a killer plugin and great idea for a backup for something that’s probably as finicky as a physical Mellotron.

Hi Matt! Thank you so much man! So wish I could come see you guys, but that is just impossible. I will tell you something I thought I'd never say. Even though I love my band to death (Genesis). When I hear a large majority of these sounds outside the band I hate them 😂 Now that's funny Matt. You're a great guy, love patching into your channel. Much luck, enjoy yourselves break a leg mate 👍

You're not alone. I'm a huge Genesis fan and a big Cherry Audio fan, but I didn't buy the Pro Soloist plugin because I don't like the sound of it much. But you absolutely NEED the Pro Soloist sounds to nail early Genesis. Matt's attention to detail is fantastic - I think the plugin is a great idea for a backup. Not as good as the real thing, but I bet the audience wouldn't mind. I played a Pro Soloist in my band in the 80s (it was all we could afford) and you had to press pretty hard to get the pitch bend! I could never get used to that.
@chippywarren97062 ай бұрын
Now that I recall. A guy I knew many years ago had one of these. I borrowed it for a while (Drummer really) well heck knows what I am. He didn't have any pedals and it made 'sounds'. It just goes to prove how good Tony was/is at setting a mood. I cannot remember the pitch bend, but from what you say, yeah 🤣 Thank you for your reply. Matt is awesome, so low key (pardon the pun) but a true spirit. Glad I found you peeps. Be well 👍

maybe the attack is because you need to add a compressor? I seem to recall someone said compression was a big factor in Tony's Prosoloist sound. But you know way more than me about this!

True, the effects units I’ve used with mine (Boss RE-20 and Maestro EP-3) certainly have preamps which color the sound. I bet there’s a lot that can be done with CA’s built in effects.

Would love to see an All in a Mouse’s Night cover by you at some point. You are the go-to for anything Tony Banks, don’t know how you do it. Without you I don’t think I’d be able to learn any of his stuff lol

Hi, Sorry for the Off Topic, can you tell me what keyboard Tony uses in Hairless Heart for the (Keyboard Theme)? Maybe the Mellotron? Thanks
@mattthomasoverdrive45142 ай бұрын
I just gave it a listen: on the studio and live version it sounds like the lead sound doubles Hackett. I believe it’s the Steel Guitar preset.

What was the sound for Rising the Scree?
@mattthomasoverdrive45142 ай бұрын
I just gave the live version a listen. All sounds with portamento and aftertouch pitch bend: Telstar Fuzz Guitar 1 Steel Guitar (as vocals enter) There’s also that plucky sound which I suspect is Steel Drum, but I don’t have it in front of me now.

Hi Matt, thanks for the great work, only now I realized that it is possible to download the preset archives for free, I wanted to ask you in which folders it is convenient to load what you have downloaded, I am not very familiar with these operations, and I would not like to make some mess... Thanks again for your tutorials where I finally manage to understand a lot about the sounds of the great Tony Banks, Thank you very much

This is amazing, thank you!! Sorry, the trumpet preset has a fast vibrato in it (when you hold a note), is like the original ProSoloist sounds like? Thank you

Would you consider talking to Cherry Audio to make this better? Or perhaps they would consider doing a preset bank with you to where these are made better with their help?

I’m always open to stuff like that. I actually reached out to them about assisting with an RMI piano plugin. Nothing has come of that, unfortunately.

once you've put a good amount of delay like banks used to do on the pro soloist, in a live situation, its gonna sound way better than this , no worries

You can do a lot of fine tuning in the "Edit" function under "Panel Mode". But I get it must be annoying for you coming from the original Pro Soloist and it not being exactly the same.

If I wanted a backup for a vintage keyboard, then I'd just replicate it on hardware. Yamaha can basically do any sound, Nord is probably the most professional stuff out there, Kurzweil has literally been deployed by artists similar to Tony... If you had to, I'd replace your Hammond. The industry is absolutely drowning in keyboards that can achieve the same or better sound. But I am ABSOLUTELY biased against tonewheels, so...
@mattthomasoverdrive45142 ай бұрын
I haven’t wanted or needed one of those Yamaha/Korg/Roland workstations since the 90s. My Nord Stage sits in a case just in case I need it. They’re cool meat-and-potato axes for more traditional live musicians. But my live work is very specific with The Genesis Show, and my home studio collection contains all the pianos, organs, and synths I’ve ever wanted. Software gets me that final 2%.
